sim
Good news that such a good car is being bought up by more and more people. Not that i want 100,000's of them sold - resale value and all that!! However i reckon that the sales figures would be higher if there were more rolling off the line and the dealers had optioned the ones on a lots more in line with what customers want - hindsight is 20/20 after all. Aggie79
The sales so far shows this car to be a good first step, I hope that Ford does not rest on this car, but continues to keep improving the Edge. My family will probably always be looking for this type of car. I really enjoy this car and hope to get a even better one in seven years. :yup:
V10
Since the Edge's main competitor, the Nissan Murano had record sales and out sold the Edge in March, I'm wondering where all the Edge buyers are coming from. Are Edge buyers mostly Ford loyalests who are replacing Explorers or other Ford vehicles with an Edge? Is the Edge making any conquest sales from competitors and importantly taking away any sales from import brands?

Dont know the numbers of any other models, but the Edge is starting to pick up sales, first month 3k, second month 7k, third month 10k - still moving in the right direction. Of course the Murano has been going for a little while, but the Edge is just starting to get rolling - really i am still not seeing many ads or other methods of getting the name out there. As for where the buyers are coming from, i moved over from Nissan as the Sentra i had was a pile of crap and i didnt want to waste any more money on that brand. I havent owned a Ford since an Escort in 2000.

What happened to the tv ads? I saw my last commercial about a week or so before I bought the car. (As I posted elsewhere, I never actually made the connection between the commercial and the car now parked in my garage......guess I'm slower than average or perhaps the Madison Avenue folks are targeting a different audience...which apparently worked!) Since my purchase I have really been watching for any kind of ads/commercials/print info, and haven't seen a thing!
Aggie79
I came from a 11 year old Explorer, that provided good service, but I do think the Explorer as is has seen it's end. I actually think the Edge should have been named as the new "Explorer" (yea I know blasphemy :shades: )offering a 2 row or 3rd row option like the CX-7 & CX-9 Mazdas. I know one of the braking points is towing capabilities but, I don't think that an Explorer or Edge needs to be able to tow more than around 4500lbs, and if you need that then go up to an Expedition for minimal cost. I think the market has been moving to more of a car based better gas mileage, better ride type of vehicle that offers the best parts of an SUV style of vehicle. So what are the best parts? For me it's the ride height, ability to carry more people or items and does not look like a mini-van (looks cool like the Edge). Just my opinions and I still love my Edge. edgy
Don't know where all the Edge buyers are coming from. However, I am selling mine. Anyone interested in purchasing a Redfire Metallic FWD SEL with Vista Roof? I also have the Premium Package, 18" wheels, sirius sat radio, leather seats, camel interior, entry keypad etc. As of today, I have less than 2,000 miles on my Edge. This is a great oppportunity for someone who wants an Edge but doesn't want to wait until the dealer gets one. My edge is like just like new. As for people buying and selling quite quickly afterwards. When we were getting a trade-in value for the Nissan Sentra we wanted to trade in for the Edge, we were at Carmax and talking with the guy babysitting us while the techs went to work. He mentioned that the same evening, some guy had brought in a brand new (couple hundred miles on the clock) FJ Cruiser to trade. The guy had rolled his previous negative equity into this SUV and now owed something like $45k on the loan. The trade value was going to be somewhere around $25-28k, barely half what he owed and nowhere near the original value off the lot. He also told us a few other stories, but this was the standout one. We were just glad to be leaving Nissan behind!

Since the Lincoln MKX replaced the Aviator, I don't think if the Edge had become the new Explorer it would have been blasphemy. BTW, the CX-7 does not have a 3rd row seat. It's flat out too small for a 3rd row. We looked at the CX-7 and it's a fun vehicle to drive, probably the best handling CUV/SUV we drove, but it's turbo 4 is very unrefined and the CX-7 is missing too many amenities. I think Ford will eventually replace the Explorer with a stretched Edge that has a 3rd row seat (like the CX-9). It will be interesting to see if the Explorer name is retained or it ends up named something like an Edge-XL.

We were just glad to be leaving Nissan behind! I drove a van for 10 years. Decided it was time for something "fun". I am VERY disappointed in the room inside the Edge (especially in the front seat) and the gas mileage. I thought I was getting something between a car and an large SUV, however, that is not the case. I was getting better mileage with my van and had LOTS more room. I am spoiled by the room and extras in a van and don't mind the "soccer mom" look. I need a van for all the trips we make as a family just didn't realize it until it was gone!

Edgy Girl
Im replacing my Toyota with an Edge - as for the Murano - actually more expensive than Edge - Could be that people don't like 1st year production cars - even though the Edge has gotten great reviews - best advertising is word of mouth and getting the Edge on the road where people can see it. My brother works at Ford - he loved the Edge the minute he saw it together - raved about the BAMR - 6yrs ago I bought my toyota - didnt even consider a Ford product as they had NOTHING that appealed to me. But I drove the Edge - loved it - it sold me. Lets hope more get "sold"
Houndkeeper
On a side note both the Murano and the CX-7 require premium fuel....thats a deal killer for me.
Aggie79
The premium fuel is was also a deal breaker for me. We test drove the CX-7 (and yes I know that it's only 2 row seating, the CX-9 has 3 row) it was nice and peppy with tight steering, but between the prem. fuel, noisy engine and a dislike for the interior we ruled it out and went with the better Edge. :yup:
Edgy Girl
Not only was the premium a deal killer for me on the CX-7 - its gas mileage approximated the Edge with less hp and only a 4 cyl. This wait is killing me - good thing the weather aint too good.. no use for the BAMR yet
