clotus
Bought a "certified pre owned" Ford Edge 2008 FWD tonight. Test drive went fine. On the way home, while on the freeway (not slick, not wet) and while cruise control was engaged, the traction light flashed on, then I lost power. I glided to a stop on the side of the freeway. Had to restart the car, and it happened again. Then again. Limped home. Obviously, we will be taking it back to the dealership tomorrow. But, is this a common problem? Easy fix? Basically, because it is certified pre owned, we have a 3day cancellation policy. So should we be cancelling? Or is this somehting that can be fixed and we move on? The carfax was completely clear. We love the car, is this an Edge issue - and should we be looking at a new car entirely? HELP

We love the car, is this an Edge issue - and should we be looking at a new car entirely? HELP Hi clotus. :D Is this a "common problem" with the Edge? No. Is it an" easy fix"? Well, there are a multitude of issues that could cause this type of problem, some are easy fixes, some are not. So there is no way to tell if it is an easy fix until the cause of the problem is diagnosed, and by then it may be too late for you to return it. As far as Carfax is concerned: While it is a helpful tool, it only goes so far. There are an infinite number of things that can slip by Carfax. So a clear Carfax is no guarantee of anything. It is only helpful when it catches things. However, in many cases, if something is missed there is no way for the buyer to know that it was missed or what was missed. Now, my opinion: I would recommend returning the vehicle for a refund. Having it lose power (multiple times) and limp home the first night you drive it is not a good sign. The alternative is to take your chances that the Dealership can fix it properly. And by the time you find out the answer to that question, it will be too late to return it. Let us know the outcome. Whatever you decide to do, good luck. :beerchug: Edited January 30, 2010 by bbf2530
Jonathan Paulk
So, what happened? I would of called the dealership, when it first lost power, and told them to come and get it!!! We just took our '08 Limited to the shop Wednesday for a CEL and running rough, surging at idle and low speed. They said it was the timining phasers. Car has 37K miles, seems kind of low for sensors to start failing....
