akirby
A lease will put you in a more expensive vehicle for less money down and if you shop smartly less cost per month. Just to be clear - you mean less per month than buying and trading in after 3 years. It is still cheaper to buy the car and keep it for a long time. k_m
Have to agree with akirby! Leasing will get you a new car, but you end up paying more. :stop: Think of it like this..... why do people try to buy/own their houses? If you rent you will never own the property, you cannot improve the appearance, etc.... you are just own the right to that space for a certain period of time. Hence your money is not going towards anything. Same applies for leasing a vehicle. You are basically renting it, hence the word lease. You do not own the car so when you want to upgrade/get a new vehicle the dealer is not buying it back, you are giving it back due to the end of your lease/rental period. It is always better to own a vehicle, house, etc.... It may cost more early on, but later on down the road its yours and you can either pass it on to your child, family member, or loved ones. Sometimes its best to be patient as well and not ac on impulse. Currently [i think the deal ends on 01-15-2010] you can get a new 2010 Ford for $0 down and for 0% for 60 months. All you have to do is make the minimal payments per month and the car is your. Also GM is a-offering something similar but for 72 months. Hope this helps! akirby
But you have to understand that some people just want something new every 2-3 years and they don't mind paying for it. If you're determined to get rid of the thing after 3 years then by all means - leasing is the way to go.

Since 1973 I have never owned a vehicle for more than 4 years. I have had many new vehicles and before leasing I always took a big hit whether I sold my car privately or traded it in. I've owned a 1974 Camaro, 75 Caprice, 76 MG Midget, 78 Dodge, Etc, etc Leasing is definitely for me
S281ETT
Thanks fort the info guys. I have never considered leasing until now since I see more and more people doing it. Haven't crunched the numbers yet but on average is it cheaper to buy the car if you plan on keeping it for 5 years or more.....I guess I'mlooking for that median number where its a better deal to buy than lease. Obviously if you keep cars for 2-3 years it would be cheaper to lease.

One thing to keep in mind going forward is that over the last several years mfrs have been subsidizing leases behind the scenes to move more vehicles and get return customers, so leases in recent memory have been very good deals. That has changed somewhat in the last few months and lease rates have gone up accordingly. Just be sure to check your options before deciding to lease or buy. jak508
Well now I have an interesting problem. My MKX lease is up in May and now do I want a 2010 or extend the lease for a few months and get a 2011. If a get the 2010 I am going to order to get exactly color options I want. I have e-mailed Ford/Lincoln to get a response on when exactly 2011 will be available and any incentives on the 2010's a few months from now. For me it would be a no-brainer - do whatever you have to do to get the 2011. You can extend your lease by 2 or 3 months with no issues unless they've changed that policy. You can still order a 2011 as soon as the order banks open, but you won't have a guarantee as to when it will arrive. And Ford doesn't know what the incentives will be on the 2010 leftovers - depends on how many there are - and even if they did they don't tell ANYBODY, EVER. You need to talk to your dealer about how long you can extend your current lease.
S281ETT
With the drastic changes being done on the 2011 I would imagine the incentives to be high on the 2010. All the interior upgrades are nice. I wish they would have kept the 2010 body or at least the rear.

With Ford more tightly controlling inventory levels I don't expect that to be the case. But yes, there will probably be slighly higher rebates on the old ones - if there are any left. Van G
What time of the year does Ford Edge come out? Spring or Fall Edited January 14, 2010 by Van G
mkaresh
They didn't show the Edge at NAIAS. Very attractive interior, I think I like it even better than the Lincoln's.
akirby
What time of the year does Ford Edge come out? Spring or Fall I think they'll show the Edge in Chicago next month and production is this summer but not 100% sure on that.
igcitng
I am blown away. When do they come out? Any thoughts on how well the 08-10's will hold their value for trade in with the 2011 available?

They will extend lease on either 2010 or 2011 until the vehicle arrives. Also, any incentives on 2010 at time of ordering and/or delivery will apply when vehicles arrives. Grey
What time of the year does Ford Edge come out? Spring or Fall Job 1 is June 5, as I recall. Guess that makes it Summer. Mustang is early (March).
jamers1
Finally they got rid of those long rectangular center air vents. The steering wheel blocked most of the air flow. Now what is that stick jetting out of the right side of the steering wheel? I don't have that in my 2008 Edge. I don't like the vertical wood grain. Looks a little pimpish. I already know I am not going to like those flush center stack buttons. There is no tactile feedback...and yes I know some of the same buttons are on the steering wheel which is starting to look close to the standard 101 key keyboard. Looks like they eliminated that bulge in the door for water bottles. I never used it and it kind of gets in the way sometimes. New center stack design may look good but you end up with less storage space. It sucks how Lincoln gets the dash storage compartment and the Ford only gets an open tray. I could do without all the satin aluminum trim. It inevitably gets scratched anyway and cause glare from the sun. Yes it still causes some glare even though it's satin and now chrome. On that note, at least they dropped the chrome shifter baseplate with routinely blinds me at least once a day.

Van G
If I'm after an 09 or 10 Edge for the sake of a better deal, will the 2011 head unit work in either of those years?
bbf2530
If I'm after an 09 or 10 Edge for the sake of a better deal, will the 2011 head unit work in either of those years? Hi Van G. :D While it is difficult to say for sure at this point, since 2011 Edge's are not even being produced yet, the likely answer will be no. It will not even fit the dash/center stack of the earlier model Edge. If even possible, trying to make the swap would likely cost more than the money you would save on the 2009/2010 model. There are so many changes in the electronics of the 2011 MyFord system, that compatibility with earlier models will be unlikely. Of course, almost anything is possible if enough time and money are thrown at it, but this would generally be an unrealistic modification. Good luck. :beerchug:

I'll stop chasing the latest and greatest tech and just aim for a fair deal on new 09/10.
