jal36
I am new to the board, but have been lurking for a short while. I currently have a 05 Ford Five Hundred Limited w/ all the "bells and whistles", except for AWD. I am thinking of trading my 500 for a new edge AWD. My husband is concerned about the gas mileage since I drive 15 miles to and from work everyday. We didn't get the 500 in AWD because of the mileage, but really the 500 doesn't get the best either. In the winter time, I would like to have the AWD even though we have a 05 F250 pickup that we take if it's that bad. Thanks for all your info on the new Edge. Hoping to get one in either the sage color or the pewter. Jodi

I'm a Ford employee who has driven both the AWD and FWD long distances..(500 miles plus). The AWD at a steady 70M.P.H. returned 22 MPG in a VERY stiff headwind. The FWD, same speed, lighter wind, got 23 MPG. I drive all of the Ford line from passenger cars to large fleet (F-650) trucks approximately 150,000 miles a year and to date, I believe the new EDGE is the quietest and most comfortible vehicle Ford has built to date. I liked it so much, I've ordered a Creme B / Charcoal cloth for my wife to replace her 04' Explorer.

We live in a small town so we do not get much city driving. It is driven around town by my wife and mostly on two lane highways. For the first 850 miles it did 19.9 miles per gallon. This is not by the computer but miles divided by gallons used. On the highway I would say it will do 22 to 23 miles per gallon. In town 16 to 17. Some of this was in some pretty cold weather, which uses more gas. I hope it gets better with some miles. Other than the gas mileage the vehicle is great and the mileage is not that bad it just that gasoline is so high.
jal36
Thank you for the input. We are expecting a call from the salesman tonight. We have driven one, I really am impressed w/ the Edge more so than my 500. The Edge is so much more quiet!!! I am looking forward to hopefully getting one. We also live in a small town as jerrym and I do more driving intown and on 2 lane hwy to work. My husband is still trying to talk me out of it because of the mileage.
