monkeytx
After 10 years of ordering Dodge/Jeep vehicles for our company fleet, we have decided to switch to all Ford Taurus/ Edge/ Flex. for North America Does anyone else in the group have any long term input on reliabilty of the Edge based on 15 to 20K / year mileage. MPG average and service history. We have a mandatory oil change service every 5K and transmission service every 30K. Should we adjust our service profile based on AWD vs FWD fleet.?? Thanks Chuck Edited December 9, 2009 by monkeytx
Matts 2010 Edge
After 10 years of ordering Dodge/Jeep vehicles for our company fleet, we have decided to switch to all Ford Taurus/ Edge/ Flex. for North America Does anyone else in the group have any long term input on reliabilty of the Edge based on 15 to 20K / year mileage. Thanks Chuck I have not had my Edge for that long, but I am no stranger to Fords. The Edge users manuel stts not to do a oil change for 7000-8000 miles. Also, based on the deal that you get Ford offers no cost maintnance for 3 years on all new vechicles, maybe something you should look into. But being that you are buying as a fleet it might be diffrent. I would talk to Ford about that before you do any work 1. that will cost you (or your company) money that you dont need to spend, and 2. dont want to worry about voiding your warrenty by doing the work youself. Good luck! Matthew
monkeytx
Thanks for the Response Matts 2010 Edge I just received my Fleet Driver Passport. We use this for maintenance profile. You are correct, oil change is designated every 7.5K Miles, instead of the old 5k Mile oil change Cabin filter replacement at 22.5K. And the air filter does not require replacement until 30K. Spark plug change at 90K and coolant and transmission service at 150K. Our maintenance schedule is setup based on Ford Fleet profile. I double checked with our Fleet coordinator. You are correct, Ford has a very different service profile than say Dodge/Jeep. Interesting Dodge had a mandatory oil change of 5K, Air Filter every 10K and Transmission fluid change every 30K. Still waiting for delivery of my 2010 SEL, I was notified it shipped from Canada, should arrive in Texas Week of 12 /21/2009. Thanks Edited December 11, 2009 by monkeytx
monkeytx
I just took delivery of my 2010 Ford Edge SEL AWD 202A package. I upgraded to the premium Nav Radio, with supposedly 9 speakers. I noticed the SEL does not have the tweeters in the A pillers such as the Limited. Am I missing something here. I thought the premium upgrade with Nav radio included tweeters in the A pillar and 9 speakers. Thanks

Thanks each door has a 2 way speaker hence 8 for the 4 doors and a sub. a weak attempt by ford on counting. but technically it is 9 (4) 2 ways and a sub. first thing ripped out and replaced. get a good set of 6x8's for the doors something that sounds good to you . go to a shop that can demo several different ones and pick which one sounds good to you. Dont buy the most expensive unless that is what sounds good to you. I like the pioneer D series they are a 2 way component set in the 6x8 format. then you can swap the sub or leave it depending on your budget and your soud requirements. rboe
Thanks Chuck I've got an '07 with 42K miles. Only thing besides one tire valve stem that went bad (bad batch made it into the country and Ford was one customer of many that got burned on them) is change oil. The cabin filter, I washed in the kitchen sink and reused. Just very open mess filter similar to units on my computer cooling fans. No reason it can't be reused. Too cheap to pay good money to buy another very cheap filter. Now if it was a HEPA filter it would be different. One tire could stand to be replaced now, one is close and two are still good - this after the usual tire rotation so I'm not sure what gives. I'm light of foot so freeway mileage averages 25mpg+. In town (17mile commute with little stop and go) is 22mpg. Drops to 19mpg on the weekends when doing chores. It does not like stop and go traffic, hills or head winds. The only time to veer from the factory maintenance schedule would be for harsh conditions; like desert heat or sand. I broke a cardinal rule when I bought the car - never buy a first year model - and over all have been pretty happy with it. So far none of the electrical gremlins we have suffered through with two old Dodge/Chrysler mini-vans and my wifes Jetta. If the job remains stable the 2011 Edge is a good possibility even though the Flex is high on my list because of the extra room. Just not sure I want to spend that much money for it.
