klc317
Ok, done alot of reading on here and all over the internet and was hoping some of you could answer a few questions that I am still foggy about. Our vehicle is an '07 Lincoln MKX with the standard 6CD non NAV factory head unit. The vehicle is also equipped without a Vista-Roof and does have the rear seat ceiling mounted DVD screen/entertainment system. I am looking into installing a new aftermarket NAV head unit. Something like a Pioneer Z110BT. We'll start with the questions: 1: I have already located and purchased a double DIN dash panel from a wrecked MKX at a local salvage yard that was originally equipped with a NAV head unit. My standard radio panel will not accept a full double DIN due to the way the radio and panel is made. That problem is solved. The people at Crutchfield claim they cant find a mounting kit for a double DIN head unit. Seems like BS to me since alot of you have made the switch to aftermarket and I went through the same issue on my '07 F150 when I put an Avic D3 in it. Anyway, what particular brand do you suggest and part numbers would be helpful. I think I used a Scosche or some similar brand in the F150 and it has been fairly solid so far. Don't want a flimsy one. 2: As for the VSS wire....Since my MKX does not have NAV and the aftermarket requires the VSS is it already in the vehicle end of the radio harness? Seems like it should be due to the Speed Sensitive Volume function on the radio but I want to make sure. Wire color please? If I need to manually locate and tap into it no big deal but it would be nice to find it is already there in the harness itself. 3: I know that I need the PAC adapter to retain my steering wheel controls. As for retaining the rear seat DVD I found this from a post that I searched for. A Metra Axxess AFDI-RSE-01. Heres a link: http://www.amazon.com/Axxess-Interface-AFD...r/dp/B00200K20G Looks like it replaces the aftermarket harness that I would need to install the aftermarket head unit but not sure. Would I also still need the additional aftermarket harness? Just wondering if this is the full deal or just another add on harness that needs to be added on to the wiring harness that would be installed to add the head unit. Hard to explain that, sorry if I sound confusing. I know this question has been asked before but I wanted to confirm that this is the correct product I need. Never did read if it worked or not. I am fairly proficient in installing electronics/car sound systems but keeping all the factory functions integrated and clean is becoming more difficult so I want to make sure I get the right stuff. Tracking down all this stuff is not easy and places like Crutchfield and other sources aren't that helpful when it comes to specific questions such as these. Aside from these questions, everything seems fairly straightforward. Thanks for the help! Edited November 29, 2009 by klc317
