Selecting a phone for SYNC

Recommended Posts

Sync has been out there long enough that you would think cell phone manufacturers and retailers would tell you if their units fully function with Sync. My wifes phone connects but would not upload the phone book. But I hear the affiliate developers are working to expand Sync's capability in this regard. Perhaps we will hear more from the Consumer Electronics Show.

Now that I'm retired, I don't get to go there (or SEMA) anymore. Those shows were always very informative.

My new Verizon DROID will not pair up with the Edge. So disappointing. Anyone else with this problem?

that actually shocks me to be honest. did you try checking here for fixes or comments as they are way more into actual SYNC issues on that board than here. more general info here, more SYNC problem solving with phones and mps players there. I would post up there.

Yes, I turned the BT on, and I allowed it to search as well as be found. Our Lexus ES found it and paired with it immediately, but the SYNC has not been able to pair with it. Seems like quite a common problem after doing some reading on the internet and other forums. I will continue to read other ideas and forums and report back anything I find anyplace else

Try this. Seems to be a problem with the 4 digit vs. 6 digit pin.

Thanks, I read that one too. I just loaded the new sync software to a USB drive and will attempt to update my SYNC tomorrow to see it that helps with the pairing. Right now I cant even get to a point to input a code, SYNC simply does not recognize the phone...

OK so I finally had some success with the DROID. I deleted my Blackberry Storm from the SYNC memory first. After that was removed I was able to get to the PIN number to pair the phone. As stated, if you use the arrow right button on the steering wheel sync gives you another set of PINS (4 digit vs. 6) So I input 0000 and SYNC paired up with the DROID just fine. Streaming Bluetooth Audio is excellent, the sound quality is awesome and ive only encountered one problem when the two devices didn't recognize each other. So far so good.

I was able to pair my daughter's Moto Droid up with no problems. She even downloaded her phone book. I did not have to delete any phones from the memory either. I have my BB Storm as the primary, as well as the wife's phone the LG Dare. I am still on version Sync 1.1 also. I guess I just got lucky.

I just got a new iPhone and had to delete the old one to get the new one to connect. For me Sync is very hot and cold with whether or not it wants to work properly. It has mood swings.

I've had no problems getting my Moto Droid to pair on first go. address book downloaded, but what I've seen is that while my phone said "other/mobile", Sync will have problems w/the phone# to list it as "mobile" and you need to say "other". I fixed this by going back up into Google addressbook, setting the phone# type to MOBILE, and then resync my addr book to my phone & then to my Edge. works now!

I believe that any phone that has bluetooth capabilities will work fine with Sync.

Not so! Not any phone with blutooth capabilities will work with Sync. I recently went though a nightmare trying to get my new cell phone Samsung SPH540 to work with Sync. After numerous calls/emails to Samsung and Ford Customer Service, no one had an answer for my frustration. Might be nice if Ford would update the Sync list of compatible phones. Furthermore if one takes time to read the forums, they will see there are numerous phones that won't work or have problems with.

For the record I ended up returning my Samsung SPH R540 in exchange for a Nokia E71 that works great, but not on the tested Sync list.

If you want to pair more than one phone just make one primary and the other as secondary, etc...

This link gives simple step by step directions http://www.syncmyride.com/Own/Modules/SupportContent/UsingSyncSupport.aspx?hdi=11

also see attached pdf for compatible phones and which features work and which ones do not.

Hope this helps
