Mr. Westfield
Hello there, new to the forum. 2008 Edge in the lineup. Has anyone used the Silverstar headlight bulbs in their Edge's? Has anyone had any electrical problems with using these in their trucks? I have heard that the Edge may be problematic with aftermarket headlight bulbs. garyedwardsmith
That's Funny since Silvania are advertising these bulbs and in the ad the vehicle they show them being used on: Ford Edge. If there was a problem you would think they would have chosen another vehicle to show them on!
BlazedUp
Silverstars are sweet ! Much better than HID, cheaper, and will not blow out your SJB. I was unable to find the silverstar ultras, so I have the regular silverstars.....what an improvement in light output and more importantly, distance. Bright white clean light. Highly recommended. Stay away from HID systems....these cars are not meant for them. Edited November 22, 2009 by BlazedUp

ablb
I’ve been using them for several years, but not in the MKX. Silverstars are good, the light is a little brighter and much whiter than regular Halogen BUT they do burn out pretty often. Have you considered HID’s ? There is no comparison to Silverstars, they are unbelievably brighter than Silverstars. I am using them in our MKX and will be converting from Silverstars in the F250, Vmax and XJ750. ab

Probably just my luck but 4 burn outs out of 20+ seem a little high. I am careful when I install, NO TOUCH the quartz!! 2 for a I30 1 of the Silverstars had to be replaced. 6 for a 300ZX no failures. 6 for a X3, 2 failed But BMWs are high maintenance 1 for a Honda VFR no failures 2 in the F250 no failures. 1 in the Yamaha Vmax no failures 1 in the Yamaha XJ750 no failures A friends has 2 (Christmas present from my wife to his) in his Land Cruiser 1 has failed, replaced last week. ab
BlazedUp
I hope they last more than a year. I paid around $50.00 for a pair.
klc317
I've had them in the headlight and foglight locations of our past several vehicles, An '03 Ford Ranger, an '07 Mercury Mariner, an '07 F150, and now in our '07 MKX. I just prefer the slight difference in look over the yellowish color of the standard halogen bulbs. I have had no reliability issues with them so far but as others have mentioned I am very careful not to touch the glass on the bulb or let it scrape on anything while installing them. They are basicly just standard wattage (same as factory issue bulbs) just with a blueish tint to the glass. As long as you stick with the same bulb numbers you will have nothing to worry about as far as burning up light harnesses and such as can happen with high wattage bulbs. ThinLine
I was under the impression that they wattage is higher on the silverstars @ 65 watts, which is why they are brighter. I thought the stock wattage was 55......I have been known to be wrong from time to time. Edited November 25, 2009 by ThinLine

I could also be wrong but I was under the impression that they are simply regular Sylvania automotive bulbs with a blueish tint to the glass. ThinLine
Yes, they do have a slight blue color to the glass on the bulb. I do believe they are 65 watt which is why they tend not to last as long as the stockers. I have only heard good things about these bulbs other than the service life. Amazon.com has very low price on the silverstar ultras with free shipping ! and a $10.00 rebate....I guess the time to buy them would be now. I am willing to give them a shot and report back. ThinLine
THanks Ablb ! That certainly clears it up. Seems not much difference between the ultras and the regular silverstars.
NEW2EDGE
That's Funny since Silvania are advertising these bulbs and in the ad the vehicle they show them being used on: Ford Edge. If there was a problem you would think they would have chosen another vehicle to show them on! I replaced both my low and high beam bulbs with Sylvania aftermarket bulbs (finding H11 bulbs was hard) 2 weeks ago and I have had no problems. As I drive alot on smaller winding highways I appreciate the extra illumination. As for problems I'm not anticipating any and more importantly they work fine with the day time running light set-up. ablb
THanks Ablb ! That certainly clears it up. Seems not much difference between the ultras and the regular silverstars. I was waiting on the Silverstar Ultra H11, just found them here. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_3_18?url...11&sprefix= For the hundred + bucks difference between Silverstar and HID’s wish I hadn’t waited. I will be converting the High beam and fog to Silverstar. ab
ThinLine
Picked up some silvertars at autozone and received instant $10 rebate ! What a difference in illumination....bright white light and you can see much further in front of the vehicle. It is amazing how much the stock bulbs were that cheezy yellow color. I figure it would be better to buy them locally so if I had any issues they can be returned. I would classify this under a must do mod. Lex Talionis
any one use them as their brights. I already have HID for lows, but not really wanting to pop for HIDs in my high as I rarely use them.. so this might be the go between. I have them only in my brights, havent had any experience with HIDs but the Silverstars are much whiter and a little brighter than the stock bulbs. I like them. I know i know it only takes a couple minutes to buy and a couple minutes to install BUT someone will need to remind me to stop at the auto supply. Maybe I should say memory permitting I’ll install highs next week. Before and after pics to be posted but then there’s that memory thing again. ab
Lex Talionis
thats all I really need to know. something I will likely do then as anything but dingy yellow is worth a little cost to me, but again, use brights so little, not enough to do a second HID kit.
