Door Switch Plate Removal?

Recommended Posts

Hey all! New owner of an 08 SEL and looking to do a few simple things. Have the full black interior with silver dash trim, but want to continue that silver color in a few other places. First spot to paint is the switch plates on all four doors. Any idea how to get them off (clips, hidden screw, etc)?

not sure what you mean "door switch plate"? talking about the handle, or trim around handle, trim around window buttons, not sure what piece your suggestion?

many of these door trim pieces actually easily pop out with easy pressure and do not have to take off the door panel as there are just clips/tabs... but maybe if you were clearer and exactly which trim pieces?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm talking about the trim piece around the window buttons. On my old car, you could just slip a small flathead under them and pop them off pretty easily, but they were just thin plastic pieces. On the left in the picture below. The ones on the Edge are a bit thicker.

ahh... sorry, I have not taken that piece off

BUT, search here on trim replacement topics and you will find some links to sites that sells wood and carbon trim pieces. one of those sites might have the schematics or one of those threads might answer if that piece pops up. I would assume it is pressure fit, but not sure.

Thanks, Lex. I'll see what I can find. I do love the look of some of those trim kits, but for me, hard to beat the $10 in paint, $10 in clearcoat, and the custom job :-)

do you have some sort of chrome paint? or what do you plan to do for silver?

I really liked the way Duplicolor's Metal Specks red looked on the old car. I would likely go with their Sparkle Silver. The image below is obviously not car related, but gives a good idea of what the finished product looks like.
