Automatic Power Door Locks

Hello All,

My wife and I purchased a new 2009 edge se this past sunday, we wanted to take advantage of the federal governments cash for clunker program. We had a 1992 ford f-150 truck that we need to get rid of for several reasons..mainly the amount of gas it used. We felt like now was a great time to do so, so far...we love our new edge. As I work for lowe's home improvement, I was able to purchase this through the x-plan program..this was one of the easiest purchases I've ever made, of course the dealer we purchased it from made the situation better also. As my wife and I are really not familiar with the edge, we still have a LOT to learn about it. I've already been able to enter a personal code on the keypad on the drivers door for my wife, makes it nice not having to use a key / keyfob. Right now my biggest concern is how long it takes the power locks to automatically lock when you start off in it. I guess we are use to how are other cars operate in that respect..that is when you start the engine and put it in drive the locks lock right away. Unlike the edge, it seems like quite a while before this occurs, I'm concerned for my wife's safety. She has told me that if she manually locks the doors before they are automatically locked they will lock for a few seconds then unlock..I think that's very unsafe ! We live in a big city, and I sure wouldn't want anyone to open the door and harm my wife. Does anyone have any suggestions for me ?

Thanks,

David

The autolocks won't come on until you hit 12mph, but there are a couple things you can do.

1st if you just hit the unlock button on the key once, it will only unlock the driver's door. Your wife can get it and start driving and all the other doors will stay locked. Once she gets to 12mph the driver's door will lock.

2nd, the door lock button on the door won't lock the doors when the key is in the ignition, that's to prevent you from locking your keys in the car. She could hit that button before she starts the car, or she could hit the lock button on the key after starting the car. Then the doors will stay locked.

3rd, are you really worried about this? I disabled the autolocks on my car, and I live in Detroit!

Hi,

I'd still place a bet on the fact that somehow you could re-program the computer in our edge to change how the auto power door locks operate. I just don't know how to do it.

David

As I've already said on multiple forums - it MIGHT be possible by the dealer using the diagnostic tool but only if that's an option in the module that controls it. Ask the dealer to hook it up to the computer and check it if it bothers you that much.

I'm going to ask one of the moderators of this forum to remove my posts, I truly didn't mean any harm in asking my question. I was actually SINCERE and CONCERNED about the well being of my wife. We live in jacksonville,fl..in land area, it's the largest city in america. We reside on one side of town, but she has to commute to a different side of town that isn't quite as friendly and safe as our side. I'm sorry if any of the other users of this forum thought my question was too silly to be posted. I'll try and refrain from posting in here unless I just HAVE TO !!

And by the way..thank goodness I have a smart wife, she devised a locking scheme on her own , also..of course she drive all of the legal speed limits, if she didn't she would get ran over.

No need to remove your posts. I told you how to check to see if it could be changed. We just didn't understand the big problem - you make it sound like the autolock programming was putting your wife in danger. If she wants the doors locked immediately just hit the button - or wait until you hit 12 mph. At worst it's a minor inconvenience - not a safety hazard.
