a.houston
I'm looking for an SUV with a "panoramic sunroof" and the ability to perform well on dirt/gravel roads and *occasionally* on unmaintained roads. I'm not planning on off-roading/rock-crawling/etc, just need something that handles the rural roads that I'll be using it on. I've narrowed the search to the AWD flavors of the Edge, Venza, and Cadillac SRX. My understanding is that the overall construction of each of these is more like a car than a truck so I have grown concerned that I may be asking too much from this design. What do you guys think? Is the Edge the best choice?
igcitng
The Venza IS a car. Much lower than either the Edge or Caddy. I love my Edge. Handles great. I test drove one in the snow and was impressed. Great in the rain, really grabs the road. I drove it around a muddy fairgrounds with no problems. Not sure if anyone will agree, but I would consider the Cadillac in a whole different class than the Edge based on price. For more money it should be better at pretty much everything. parcs
I travel a lot of gravel roads here in North Dakota with my MKX. It handles them very well. No problem at all.
bulldog
we had a little excitement last summer (our son had just left the house and 5 minutes later called and said they'd been hit and the car left, and his girlfriend wa shurt) my wife was hysterical, i told her to call the police, i told my girls to get into the car (8,5 at the time) and we headed out. i drove the EDGE extremely aggressive down our gravel road, it performed perfectly. i could feel the front wheels spinning and it drifted great. (Son and girlfriend were OK, airbag hit her in the mouth and busted lip pretty good, and hurt her back) the car didn't run, it was knocked down into the valley. my girls did NOT want to ride back with me, i scared them w/ my driving. Moral to the story: it performed great in the gravel!!!
