The standard for the Edge/MKX is front wheel drive. To turn a FWD car into AWD car, they add a Power Takeoff Unit, a driveshaft from the PTU to the rear axle, an electronic coupler where the driveshaft joins the RDU and a RDU with active differential.

There's no practical way to convert an AWD to RWD without modifying the transaxle. Possibly by changing out the transaxle and installing a transmission from a F150. Would also have to modify the driveshaft and RDU.

You could disable the AWD function by popping a fuse or two and make the car FWD only. This will set a code and light in the instrument panel. As an alternative, you could remove the driveshaft.

Question is, why would anyone want to?
