Using Forscan to reprogram new BCM

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the forum @Clint in Kan!

What is the model year? At this time, FORScan can only initialize an Edge BCM (experimental!) up to MY2020 of the Edge. You will need 2 working key fobs.

What is the reason of replacing the BCM? Some problems may be solved by inspecting the BCM connectors for corrosion.

It’s a 2015. Symptoms include power trunk hatch only partially opening and then closing (nothing preventing movement), instrument cluster staying lit when power off, park lights staying lit when power off.  These all just randomly happened yesterday.  I disconnected battery negative for 30 mins but that didn’t help.  Going to run a scan for DTC on Friday.  Because multiple simultaneous random issues, that led me to think BCM but still haven’t finished diagnosis.  I was just prepping for worst case to figure out what I might need because some parts need time to be ordered.

I’m sure I did when I registered and just checked - it is there.  Does is not appear for you?  Perhaps there is something more I need to do to make it visible if you can’t see it?

Quite likely you added it to your profile in the correct location, BUT the forum has a long outstanding issue with that not displaying, hence the request to add it to your signature.

Welcome @Clint in Kan!

Have you had the battery load-tested to ensure it is not failing or in a failed state?

Per the Workshop Manual section attached below as a PDF document, while our vehicles employ load shedding strategies to conserve power during reduced battery state-of-charge conditions, a failing or failed battery can cause modules and their related components to behave in unexpected ways.

Given that the symptoms you describe materialized in a single day, particularly involving the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), you may want to have the battery tested, even if it has been replaced within the last few months.

Good luck!

  • 2 weeks later...

UPDATE:

1. No DTC's found

2. Brand new battery installed - no change

3. Lights staying on was a red herring, they do eventually turn off

4. Besides the power trunk not operating properly (opens approx 1 foot then closes), the vehicle appears to be operating fine

Any thoughts on next things to rule out?  I thought I read somewhere that there is a trunk control module?

The thread that @Wubster100 posted addresses the open position height adjustment, but yours is behaving as if there's an obstruction and that triggers it to drive closed.

See if you can move the tailgate further open by hand.

On the last page of that thread is  the reset that worked for my height adjustment using FORScan - worth trying that.
