Fuel Pump failed at under 27K on 2.0 Eco Boost

Recommended Posts

I purchased a 2020 Edge titanium 9 months ago, it has under 27k on it now and I just had to have a new fuel pump put in. I LOVE this car but the Eco Boost scares me now.
I've never had anything other than Hondas and all those engines went well over 210k with no big repairs.
Has anyone else had fuel pump problems?

Welcome.

What specifically scares you about the "EcoBoost" ? - Many Honda's and other brands use turbo chargers these days, and likewise direct fuel injection.

BTW the Fuel Pump and EcoBoost aren't really related.

Fuel pump failure in a 2020 would be considered extremely rare. As you bought it used, I wouldn't get my knickers in a bunch unless other parts start failing.

Eco Boost is related to turbochargers. Nothing to do with a fuel pump failing. Fuel pump failures are more related to a load of bad gas with dirt in it, clogging the inlet filter and overheating the pump.

That can happen to anyone (in fact happened to me years ago.) Traced to a small operator who pumped out a tank at one of his stations to fill another at another station he owned. He sucked up all the dirt at the bottom on the tank. Couldn't sue as he denied everything. Cost me over three hundred as I had to also replace all filters, carb rebuild.

It was the drive unit for the high power fuel pump that failed and they discovered that the whole fuel pump needed to be replaced. I was not told why. I have been reading in other forums that one of the biggest problems with this car is that coolant leaks out onto the engine and people are needing new engines. The F150 forums are talking about fuel pumps and related issues that are like what happened to me.
I've used whatever gas has the lowest price in all my previous cars and never had a fuel pump issue and they were all driven up to 200K. So I'd expect a newer Ford to not have this problem. Plus my old daddy hates the engine on this. He got the 3.5 and feels good about that one but not a 2.0. Told me to consider ditching it before the warranty is up after reading up on it.

Your 2020 model year 2.0L is of the new design and should be immune to the head gasket failure. But the engine still has to overcome carbon build-up, turbocharger issues,  spark plug & coil failures.

Those vulnerabilities exist for all Ford models, and all other manufactures - some have included dual injection for the GDI carbon issue, revised spark plugs, and coil-over-plugs.
