What Is Distance Indication

Distance indication displays the gap between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.
Note:   The graphic does not display if you switch on cruise control or adaptive cruise control.

Vehicle Speed   System Sensitivity   Distance Indicator Color   Distance Gap   Time Gap
62 mph (100 km/h).   Normal.   Gray.   Greater than 82 ft (25 m).   Greater than 0.9 seconds.
Yellow.   56–82 ft (17–25 m).   0.6-0.9 seconds.
Red.   Less than 56 ft (17 m).   Less than 0.6 seconds.

Switching Distance Indication On and Off

To switch the system on or off, use the instrument cluster display:
  1. Using the instrument cluster display controls on the steering wheel, select Driver Assist.
  1. Select Pre-Collision.
  1. Switch Dist. Indication on or off.

Distance Indication Indicator

The indicator displays the time gap between your vehicle and vehicles traveling in the same direction ahead of you.

I had it enabled on my 2016 Edge Sport using ForScan. Since the 2016 also has the red led bar for collision warning, part of the same bar would turn on when following too closely (red).

So I would expect it to be possible to be enabled on the ST.

@johnmarkp@1004ron I have installed adaptive cruise control, but for a while I never really investigated into the distance indication. The distance indication should work for most IPCs, as long as you have adaptive cruise control.

The code is quite simple. Inside of IPC configuration, just change “Forward Collision Warning” from “Forward Collision Warning (FCW)” to “FCW + Following Distance Alert (FDA)”

Please tell us how to enable this using Forscan - I'm thinking of tinkering with this.

I see @Wubster100 already answered.

At the time I recall enabling it the manual ABD way using information from the 2gfusions forums, however, the site stopped working for me from a long time, probably due to my location outside the US. This thread/post might have the info, but I can't confirm since it doesn't open for me.

I want to install the red led HUD onto my 2021.

I remember some Ford owners who retrofitted adaptive cruise control to their cars found the wiring already there. If that's your case it might be a simple plug and play.

The plastic cover should come off easily, if it is still similar to the older models. See attached procedure.

I am located in the US, and I can’t access the site through my normal browser. For some reason, only Firefox works for me, and it’s an unsecured HTTP site.

Thanks,

At first Forscan only displayed only the PCM module, so time to Google and first suggestion was to downgrade to an older version which didn't work, then deleted my vehicles profile and then it took longer to load up but all modules displayed.

Change made and will try it for a couple of days to see if I prefer it.

I don't find it to be a very useful feature, but the distance indication icons and colors are well implemented and not distracting. I will keep it on because I find it interesting to see the different driving scenarios of when the system detects a vehicle ahead, especially how it is able to track the vehicle during curves. The distance indication can be easily disabled in the instrument cluster. I find it extremely disappointing that Ford explains this feature in the owner's manual, yet it is disabled on our vehicles. I wonder why this feature was disabled?
