Squeek sound above 60 MPH

Recommended Posts

There are too many different forum choices, but I think picked the right one. I have a 2024 Edge St. I have about 5500 miles. At about 3500 miles I noticed a faint metallic speaking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. I noticed it only happened about 65 mph or higher, so I thought it was from the wind. It started get worse, louder and at a slower speed, I had someone drive while I sat in the back seat behind the driver. At around 55 mph I start to hear this squeak (metal on metal). I have narrowed it down to coming from the vent above the rear left wheel well in the cargo storage area. I believe I can take out my cargo cover (where it clips in) and remove the vent, but it looks like I will eventually have to remove the driver side rear cargo area trim side cover. I was wondering if anyone has had this. It does seem to be related to speed and possibly wind as it only happens at higher speeds and the bumps in the road don't seem to be the issue. Thanks to all for any ideas. Jim

As most of you know taking it to the dealer would be a waste of time as they hate to look for squeaks and rattles. Even under warranty.

Because it only occurs at speed, and is now manifesting at lower speed makes me think that it is directly related to a moving part.

First thing that comes to mind is the brakes. Specifically a dust shield is being bent over due to wind flow. Or one of the pads is worn, causing the low pad warning tab to just touch causing a metal-to-metal squeak.
