2013 Edge loss of throttle response

Hello,  I'm a new member and have a tech question regarding a 2013 Edge with 3.5.  This is my daughter's vehicle that she bought in Italy.  She is in the Air Force and just got orders to Korea and she shipped the Edge back to the US.  I picked it up in SC and drove home to NC.  While on the highway at cruising speed of 70ish, I noticed that the throttle response would disappear and the vehicle would just start coasting.  Almost as if you turned the key off.  If i let off the gas and applied throttle again speed would pick back up.  It's not a Hybrid, and the vehicle has 73,000 miles.  There are no check engine lines and no warning lights came on when this occurred.  I don't know much about the Edge so I joined here to learn about any issues and get some help so when my daughter gets done in Korea and comes home her truck has no issues.

Welcome to the Forum @mskotlarek1, and thank you for raising up your courageous daughter who is among the valiant Airmen who represent our country's strength around the world!  We are indebted to your daughter, yourself, and the rest of your family for the sacrifices you all make on our behalf.

 

A good first step toward resolving the throttle control issue on your daughter's Edge can be having the vehicle's electronic modules scanned for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), which provide guidance toward subsequent diagnostic efforts to determine the throttle control issue's root cause.

 

If you don't have a Code Reader device immediately available to you, consider calling around to Auto Parts stores nearby and ask about their capability (and any cost) of performing a DTC scan on the Edge, with them providing you a list of the any DTC(s) found.

 

Please report any found DTC(s) back here, and we'll offer you fuller advice, which can include diagnostic and repair procedures -- if you are interested and equipped to attempt those next-steps yourself, as opposed to having a professional technician at a nearby dealership or an independent repair shop address the repair.

 

It seems likely your daughter's Edge is a United States-market vehicle that she has repatriated following her buying it in Italy, but if the Edge was originally an EU-market vehicle, please let us know.

Thank you @Haz for your kind words.  Yes, we are very proud of our daughter.    As far as the Ford Edge, it was originally purchased in the USA, in Alaska, then made its way overseas from another service member.   Personally, it's my opinion that the dealership (Patriot Auto Sales) took advantage of her being a young female service member.  I looked into the background of the company, and they seem to be no more than a Buy Here-Pay here format dealership that count on service members financing vehicles while overseas and selling them back to them when the service member gets order out of the country that they are in.  They really made it almost impossible for Dayanna (daughter's name) to gt the vehicle to clear customs with registration paperwork.

 

That's a whole other story.  Dayanna is just super proud of this vehicle because it was her first major purchase that she did all on her own. That makes me proud to.  However, it does need some attention with the throttle response issue and new brakes and rotors in all 4 corners.  She sipped it home for her younger sister to drive for the next 2 years. But as the guy of the house, I need to make sure Dayanna has something to come home to instead of a washed-out vehicle with more issues than it had when it left Italy.

 

I do have the mechanical ability to do most of any needed work as I have been wrenching on my own cars since 1986.  I am a Ford guy when it comes to trucks and SUV's.  I've owned 3 F150's and one of the Expedition EL's and I'm rocking a 1997 F150 right now as my daily driver.    I just don't have any knowledge of the EDGE.  I do have an OBD scanner.  I'll plug it in and see what happens.  It's a cheaper unit, If nothing else I can take it to my buddy's shop and throw him a few bones and have them scan it.
