Cindy
I just received a card in the mail about a SYNC upgrade. I have an 08 Limited Edge. I took my car in for an oil change and they mentioned it to me. He said is dials 911 like On Star and shows you what maintenance is due. Has anyone done this upgrade? The cost is $50.00 and I am trying to figure out if it is worth it. Does anybody know anything about the upgrade? Thanks for any info. Lex Talionis
for $50, I would do it for sure. you can read all about it at http://www.syncmyride.com - I plan to do it, a few here have, many have over at the link I posted here this link will drop you right into the most popular thread there on this very topic Edited March 21, 2009 by Lex Talionis
BlazedUp
I will have my wife tell the service manager of this upgrade when we are having our 4 new rims installed due to corrosion of the outer clear coated aluminum rim. I will gladly pay $50 bucks if this upgrade would save my wifes/ 5 month old daughters life in the event of, god forbid, a crash.
weasel
The only caveat is that your cell phone has to survive the crash in order for things to work. Too bad we didn't have an OnStar type system. Ideally, that would be the best. That said, I'll take the chance and get the upgrade next time I am in. BlazedUp
So, in order for the 911 assist to work, your cell phone has to be on and hooked up to sync via bluetooth ? Provided, like stated above, the phone survives the crash. I was under the impression it did work like on-star.

akirby
So, in order for the 911 assist to work, your cell phone has to be on and hooked up to sync via bluetooth ? Of course it does - how else would Sync be able to dial 911? It's a tradeoff. With OnStar you have a built-in cell phone that requires a separate number. You can't upgrade the phone. Those who bought older OnStar vehicles were stuck with an analog cell phone that couldn't be upgraded. 911 calls don't go to the local emergency center. A crash could just as easily knock out the OnStar phone or antenna. The advantage with Sync is you don't need a separate phone or phone number. You can upgrade your phone and service and use any service provider you want. And it works with ANY passenger's cell phone in any Sync equipped vehicle. It's not a foolproof safety feature and neither is OnStar. But it would certainly work in most accident situations.

I didn't really get much from the service manager when I was in there about how it worked. Is there a separate charge for it besides your cell phone? That question is probably answered by looking at the website you said. I will do some research on it but from what I read what people are saying on this blog, I probably will upgrade to it. How did you manage to get them to replace your wheels? the dealership keeps telling me that it happens on all rims that have a "lip" and that it is "rock" chips and not corrosion.
