Lane Keeping Assistant won't turn off!

Recommended Posts

The other day, the lane keeping assistant turned itself on, and now it won't turn off.  When I press the button on the turn-signal stalk, I get the message on the screen that the lane keeping has been turned off, but it is still on.  The lane-edge lines still appear, and the system is still controlling the steering as it normally does.  Setting the cruise control to "normal" instead of adaptive does disable it, but setting it back to adaptive, the lane-keeping feature is back on.  Since I get the messages on the dash, the switch and its wiring must be OK, and the computer is at least partially responding.  It seems to me this might be a software glitch that could be cleared by a full reset, but is there any way to do this other than disconnecting the battery?  If I do disconnect the battery, will I have problems with radio codes or other unforeseen problems?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Is it Lane Keeping (alert on dash, vibrate steering wheel, slight steering assist), or Lane Centering (will steer through curves and follow lines)? Is it only doing it when you have the cruise on? You can disable Lane Centering using the button with the steering wheel with the lines (above the sensitivity car with the three lines).

Year and model would possibly help, we only know assume it is a 2019 or newer.

From the 2020 Edge Workshop Manual with emphasis added...

Lane Keeping System Operation

The lane keeping system is turned on and off using the lane keeping system switch located on the LH steering column multifunction switch. The lane keeping system switch is directly connected to the SCCM . The last known on/off setting for the lane keeping system is recalled every time the key is turned on. When a MyKey® is in use, the system defaults the lane keeping alert mode to on and cannot be turned off. When the system is on, it is active only when the vehicle speed is above 64 km/h (40 mph) and at least one lane marking can be detected by the camera. The system can be turned off at any time by pressing the lane keeping system switch. If the lane keeping system switch is pressed when a MyKey® is in use, the IPC message center will display a message informing the driver that the system is on.

Looking to the above MyKey references - If you have more than one key, for your Edge, is the Lane Keeping System (LKS) on/off behavior issue the same for each key?

Looking to the above last known on/off setting reference - If you deactivate ACC and then shut down your Edge, and then you restart the vehicle and activate ACC, is the LKS then On or Off?

Toward your desire to perform a LKS reset - The Image Processing Module A (IPMA) power is protected by Body Control Module fuse F36 15-amp, which also protects the Auto Dimming Interior Mirror and Heated Rear Seat Module LH circuits.

Thank you all for your advice and suggestions.  I did not fully understand the difference between lane-keeping and lane-centering, so it is probably the second one that is on.  I must have pushed the button accidentally while changing the cruise control setting.  When all else fails, read the manual I guess.  Thanks again....

When ACC was mentioned, I should have recognized your Edge was equipped with Co-Pilot360+

I made the same assumption but Adaptive Cruise Control has been available since 2011. 2019 did add Stop and Go and Lane Centering to it. Other clues made it likely to be a 2019+ vehicle though for sure.

Actually, it is a 2020,ST, but I have only had it about 6 months, and still learning its quirks.  For instance, did you know that if the parking brake is applied, touching the accelerator will not release the brake if a door is ajar?  Only discovered that one yesterday.
