DTC Code C009C:00-EC in AWD Module

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I purchased a preowned 2020 SEL AWD with ~45k on it in Feb of this year. roughly every 2000 miles I bring it into the dealership (from which it was purchased) due to an "AWD Malfunction, Service Required" message in the left hand dash panel which does not go away with power cycles. Well, I've finally had enough after 2 months in the shop and the dealer doing nothing, and have retrieved the code above in Forscan. Typing the code with the tail modifier into google brings me to this forum but the trail really runs cold after that.

Forscan references the "Position sensor A out of Range", so my best guess is that a sensor is either not working, the RDU actuator is not working, the wire harness is damaged, or the fluid is damaged. There is no noticable mechanical damage to the unit.

What should I do next? I can find very little information regarding diagnostic information on this AWD system online, which is frustrating, but I figure I may find something here. Are there any diagrams or wiring schamatics available so when this happens again I can appropriatly react?

I hope this is making sense...

I just replaced the fluid. There was metal suspended in the fluid but not nearly as bad as I have seen in some mavericks and other edges. Lots of metal on the magnet. There was immediatly no more "silent" codes stored in the computer after a single drive. The AWD widget in the dash now reports the rear wheels recieve power at full throttle up to and above 60MPH. I plan to change the fluid in ~1500 miles when I go to do the next oil change just as more of a "flush". If I get another bout of codes, I will report back.
