2019 Edge SEL Front Turn Signal Bulb is not what it says it is

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

One of my front turn signal bulbs burnt out on my 2019 Edge SEL.

I went on Amazon and it said a 7440 bulb would be the replacement, so I ordered a pair of 7440 Yellow LED bulbs with built-in resistors.

When I tried to change them tonight, I twisted the socket out, and then bulb that pops out of it is NOT a 7440 bulb.

So I checked the user manual and it says it requires a WY21W bulb, which upon further investigation, is the same base as a 7440 bulb.

Anyways, the bulb that's in my turn signal socket is some weird bulb I've never seen before and there are no identifying marks on it.

I did some forum searching and found out that there are possibly three types of Edge SEL light housings, so maybe mine are the weird type?

Would anybody know what this particular bulb is?

Thanks in advance!

You can disable the hyperflash with Forscan and change them to Turn Signal Only, not Park & Turn Signal.

The ForScan changes were: 726-29-02 xxx* xxxx xxxx 0=Turn Only 1=Turn & Parking/Position

This is great info, thank you so much!
A few weeks ago I actually upgraded to an H7 AGM Odyssey battery after the stock 2019 Motorcraft battery failed, and I used Forscan to update the BMS info to an "02" battery.
I'll have to disable hyperflash as well if the built-in resistors on the bulbs don't work.

I have my halogen turn signals set to be turn signals, but I used FORScan to set the running lights to do the same thing as the DRL. I thought from the factory the turn signal bulbs are only for turn signals and running lights, but I have seen another Edge on the road and the turn signals also functioned as running lights. Did something change with the turn signals throughout 2019-2024? From the factory my turn signals never operated as running lights.

Just wanted to do a follow up post, I got the turn signals and installed them.

These are the ones I purchased:
https://www.amazon.com/AUXITO-7440-Resistor-Blinker-Replacement/dp/B0CLP6N7SX?th=1
edit:
https://www.amazon.com/Resistor-Extremely-Blinker-Replacement-Upgraded/dp/B09S9WGSWY

They are comically bright compared to the stock bulbs.

I wouldn't know how to describe the difference in lumen output, but the stock bulbs are kind of a soft, hard to see glow, whereas these new LED bulbs are akin to laser beams, seemingly at least twice as bright as the stock ones and just pierce the very fabric of your soul when you stare at them.

No hyperflashing either!

Here's a video at night.

I apologize, @dabangsta, I totally mucked up that post and put the INCORRECT bulbs.

THESE are the bulbs I got that CORRECTLY fit my 2019 Edge SEL
https://www.amazon.com/Resistor-Extremely-Blinker-Replacement-Upgraded/dp/B09S9WGSWY

The ones I incorrectly posted above
https://www.amazon.com/AUXITO-7440-Resistor-Blinker-Replacement/dp/B0CLP6N7SX?th=1
were the ones I had originally ordered (due to the user manual and Amazon stating they were what I needed) and DID NOT fit.

So yes, it DOES take the PWY24W bulb like the Fusion.

Sorry for the con"Fusion"... <--- see what I did there? I'm cool like that.

Thanks for the update on the PN and the ones you got!

I have had these for awhile, I bought them for my 2015 Fusion that my daughter drives, but didn't get them installed before she had the bulbs replaced for way too much money. $3.50 for the set from China (Aliexpress), I will install them when I remove the drivers side headlight assembly to install the dual tone horn.

Thanks, I can see the video now. Have you tried using them as marker lights too?

You mean in Forscan enable them to be always on until used as a turn signal, then blink? By default I don't think any models have the inner light as a marker/parking light, just the outer, and possibly the signature lighting (LED strip).

Seems like 2015+ that bulb is directional only.

2007-2014 it was a combo park/directional, with park being lower powered than the directional (so it was always on when park/headlights on even when blinking).

The directional can be set to be the DRL in Forscan. The LEDs I tried fast blink (the IC only, not the actual bulbs), which was annoying but I might try setting them to DRL to see if they properly blink on turn signal usage.

2015-2018 is also combo. Position+Direction light. However, for these years it uses a single filament bulb and changes the voltage to change from position lights to signal.

On my 2016 I had the position lights disabled with ForScan (link here) so they function as turn signal lights only. For park we have the bumper mounted "signature" lights.

Sorry, yes, I was confused about the 2015-2018 until I found a video on them and tracked down my neighbor to check out theirs, I was going to retract what I said.

I guess I would like to find a non signature lighting 2019+ headlight to see what it has, this is my first Ford with signature lighting that isn't always on (it can be turned off with the light switch in the off position), all others no matter what, if the car is in RUN position the signature lighting is on.
