WilkiST
Hi guys, i swapped from trusty Ford S-Max 2.5T (inline 5) manual transmission to 2022 Edge ST. I'm living in hilly areas and most of the time is was using my engine for braking while crusing down the hills. Noe, on Edge ST with AT i can't find the way to use engine for braking. If I use paddles to manually shift down for higher revs i still can not feel braking. Maybe a little, but nothing close to my previous MT car. Will wear brake pads and rotors within months:/
STBEAST
You can't use the engine for braking. The Edge is too heavy, and the engine is too small. It works a tiny bit but not much. Drive it like you stole it and enjoy the heck out of it.
dabangsta
It won't be anything like a manual transmissioned vehicle, and manually shifting it will help, but not be the same. Sport mode also helps. I have 92,000 miles on my OEM brakes, and I did some serious mountain passes with a lot of traffic, and I smoked my brakes the first couple of times (serious chatter after one extreme slow down session), but once I used Sport mode, added a little following distance, I didn't have an issue again. I bow down to anyone that can wear out brakes in months and not using it on a track.
Wubster100
I don’t have any paddle shifters. If I use sport mode, there is engine breaking.
boostededge
Take your pick which to wear out first. Brake pads or transmission. I'll take the pads.

Until your pads/brakes heat up, you can't brake and then don't have anything left to pick.
STBEAST
Did you get the optional performance brake and tire package. If you did, hills will not be an issue. In my opinion the ST should come standard with the oversized brake pads and rotors. If they are going to give it an ST badge, give it everything it needs. The 21-inch Perelli P ZERO tires should still be and option though as they are a summer tire.
