Welcome to the Forum @rans!

You are referring to the Intermediate Shaft Seal and its Dust Shield in your Edge's Power Transfer Unit (PTU).

Workshop Manual descriptions and procedures relevant to these components are attached below as PDF documents...

Clicking on the following links will lead to the described resource:

Please be aware that the online Ford Service Video player provides a lower right-hand corner menu button to download the video file, allowing direct viewing of the video procedure on a smartphone or tablet while performing the procedure...

I have not got to do this yet unfortunately got sick for a few days. I may be over thinking this and I do believe that tht procedure is correct and needed. However that picture I posted that is metal does that have to be removed and replaced is that the deflector all the ones I find to replace is plastic.  So I am worried that, that may be part of my drive shaft or something.  I just really dont want to really mess my car up to a point I CNT afford or that will cost more then what my car is worth.  I apologize. I would just like to be thural with this seeing as how I am basically going into my transmission. And in experience if not covering or asking questions can cause serious damage.
