Rumblesis
Has anyone had this done yet? Will it adversely affect my Edge?
Ar Gerrit
I also received the notice for our 2018 Edge. I'm very reluctant to get this done without further details. What emissions are potentially not met in real conditions? What does this reprogramming cause? I'm all for reducing actual emissions, but I'm concerned it will just decrease MPG or decrease performance by tuning the emissions for some theoretical compliance. It is just that Ford has done things like this in the past where they issued recalls that were 'easy for them' but not in the benefit of the owner. (E.g. this recent one 24-2188 Ford Wheel Technical Service Bulletin where instead of replacing a vacuum line to fix the partial engagement of 4A, they just cap them which disables 2H mode and always runs in 4A.)
jumpsteady
I got this notice as well for my 2015 Edge. It just so happens that the check engine light has periodically come on and off and am getting codes P2196 and P2198. Could this be a new Mass Air Flow Sensor or a new vapor canister purge valve is needed? Or could reprogramming the power control module possible fix this check engine light coming on? Any thoughts on this?

Any thoughts on this? Doubt this recall would affect that Mass Air Flow Sensor code, but who knows. A P0420 or a P0430 Catalyst Efficiency code for a bad Catalytic Converter i think would be a likely result of this lack of proper programming since it affects tailpipe emissions. ScooterBOSS
Well I received this recall notice for my 2016 Ford Edge Titanium with the 3.5L standard (non-turbocharged) engine. So, when I went in to the local Ford dealership on 12/6/24 for an oil change I asked them to address this Recall Notice 24E10 that I received. They did it and I left but then over the next few days I noticed my average fuel economy started to drop. I have owned this Edge for 5 years and it has about 87,000 miles on it now and it has never dropped below 22.5 Avg MPG on the dash readout. In fact I always wondered if it was stuck at 22.5 so I would reset it and it would slowly settle back down to 22.5 but might do a little better on long trips but never dropped below 22.5. Now after the recall "FIX" it slowly over a few days dropped down to about 21.2 MPG which I'm not please with Ford about this. This reduction may not seem like much but I would think that a recall to reduce tailpipe emissions would not reduce fuel economy but instead possibly improve combustion and fuel economy! I called both local dealers and they really couldn't help me as they said this was a Ford Mandated Recall. When I called the Recall customer service phone number I got an Asian gal that I couldn't understand very well and all she offered me was to set up an appointment at a local Ford dealer at my expense and have them run a diagnostic test to see what might be the problem. My Edge was running fine when I took it in and after the recall "FIX" it seems to have more engine noise and worse fuel economy. I would think twice about having this recall addressed if you Edge is running fine and you are not in a state that still has emissions testing rqmts for license registration. I have owned Ford's all my life and currently have 4 but that may change in the future when replacing vehicles. Thanks for listening and if you have any suggestions how I can improve/restore my fuel economy, I'm all ears.
Cobra4fun
There is another post on this Forum regarding this same exact recall here: Bottom line is that this Recall seems to be creating multiple other adverse issues. 👎
Ar Gerrit
Yes, which is why I hadn't done mine yet either. In my state there is no mandatory emission testing anymore (discontinued a few years ago). What seems to happen based on a few other reports, is the vehicle runs less lean. This would make sense, as that happened in other emissions recalls over the years too. It then often means higher fuel consumption but less partially combusted side products and hence lower emissions. There is talk on how busted cats are a side effect of the original issue (lean, but higher amounts of partially combusted particles) configuration. But that is not confirmed yet either. Some people seem to have thrown that into some AI app and now posting screenshots suggesting it as a fact, not realizing the AI might have only picked it up from forum posts like ours where we were speculating. Nevertheless, if true that would mean this recall would give a lower chance of future cat failure vs an immediate higher fuel consumption now. But it is all speculation of course. The fact that Ford is vague means there is some tradeoff somewhere. Edited February 10 by Ar Gerrit
