Alesia
I have 2014 ford edge SEL AWD. I recently replaced my left side directional buttons on my steering wheel because before I replaced it, all my buttons were working but going in opposite directions when I’d try to change things in the information setting ( where oil change reset is, my vehicle etc) and now it’s worse, everything is still opposite, ok button is up arrow and I can not reset oil. It’s all out of whack. Also checked the small fuses as well and they were fine, not sure about the bigger fuses.. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else could be wrong? I’m trying to troubleshoot and fix things myself because we cannot afford to take it to the shop. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you 🙏🏻 Edited August 20 by Alesia Had to add vehicle model
johnmarkp
The buttons are not individual on/off switches. Instead they are in a resistor ladder. The steering wheel control module reads the resistance on of the circuit and decides which button has been pushed. The problem you describe is probably due to a bad connection in the wiring between the switch block and the control module. Or it could be a bad control module. The fact that the behavior changed when you replaced the switch makes me think the the wiring within the steering wheel itself is bad.
