Coleon
Hello All - New Here.. I appreciate Everyone's time to read & Respond.. I have an Edge and a 2012 Explorer both with the 2.0 Eco Boost. Ever since way back when I have had ZERO luck in looking for or achieving any info or parts to help the power in both vehicles. I've done a couple small things her and there but Absolutely nothing significant has ever been accomplished. Honestly, I wish I could just add a couple more pounds of boost to both of my applications but have been un successfull in all approaches. I recently came across the ( https://www.boombaracing.com/ford-eb-blow-off-valve/ ) FORD EB BLOW OFF VALVE and with that being said I had a thought, Probably a dumb one, but a thought no less. * Shouldn't we be able to either increase the spring strength or Lessen, or a longer/Shorter spring to possibly add just a tad bit more boost to our systems? * I also came across the " Boost Control Module " on the K&N Filter site (which is basically for the Duramax Chevy's) but that got me thinking why isn't there one for the 2.0 Eco-Boost.. Why isn't there ""ANYTHING"" we can buy or do to help performance? ( https://www.knfilters.com/21-3101-k-n-boost-control-module ) I was really hoping by purchasing the EB BOV that we might be able to do something with that OR Remove the stock spring in ours, and replace with a different one - And Problem Solved.. And the older I get, The more I realize Life just couldn't be that Easy...lol I also a couple years ago came across some (Im probably gonna say this wrong...) Pedal assist module that was made by I think NGK or maybe even MSD that did some electronic resistance m odification which is different from stock, that added like "5-7 lbs of Boost" - Buy Ultimately reminded me of the "Tornado Plate" that you could put before your TB which would give you like an "UNBELIEVIEBLE 75-100 Added HP" !!! Ya Right.......NEXT....lol But I've been searching and hoping there's something out there and was Praying I'd come across a couple enthusiast's on here who also have entered into this endless quest of sorts in acquiring a lil more "Umphhh If You Will" Anyway - Again Thanks for taking the Time to R&R (Read & Respond) to my Post/Quest... -Thx Cole Coleon@Gmail.com
garycrist
it ain't like the good old days anymore! That is why "Tunes" are sold. The BOV just ducts to the engine bay, so one may hear the "whoosh" instead of dumping back into the intake side. Also, forget the pedal BS too. The pedal mod, pops the throttle open quicker but, the turbo/s spool up only so fast! The down side as I see it, is say one has been sitting idling a tad, and the "Stop Light Grand Prix" urge hits. All the while, the oil has been accumulating on the cylinders, rings and skirts of the pistons has not burned off. The mapping is set to deliver a 1st. shot of fuel (keeps the duty cycles down on the injectors) this happens before another richer mixture is injected that is closer dynamically to the spark plug just before TDC. This is similar to Honda's "Stratified Charge" but without the extra combustion chamber and valve. This 1st. fuel charge (very lean relative to the total mixture) mixes with the residual oil that has not burned off. Unfortunately, the octane rating is lower than the oil as well as the fuel. This is a culprit to Low Speed Pr-Ignition (LSPI). LSPI burns holes into pistons, breaks rings, lands and the best part by the time one gets a hint, TOO LATE! This is why oil specs were changed for Direct Injection (DI) and especially DI turbo engines. Save your bucks. Tune inter-cooler and bigger "Snails". Coleon
Ahhhhhh.... Now I understand... That very interesting and I can see how that could absolutely destroy a motor from the inside out. So what are people using to tune these versions of the 2.0? What software? And what about flashing? And so in your opinion you would just leave the whole BOV idea alone, mainly BS of turbo size and loosing that instant volume of air vs pressure? or am I backwards on this? Do you feel like upgrading the intercooler would be a wise investment? Have you ever or have you ever heard of being able to acquire more boost via adjusting the waste guage rod on the turbo? Sorry if Im coming off a little Noob'ish.. I dont have a ton of experience in boost applications. Ive only worked with alot of N/A applications, Fords, Honda's etc. Thanks - I Appreciate your input
garycrist
I am not an expert nor have much knowledge of tunes etc. Remember, we are lugging around 2 1/4 tons of car around! With a 120 CID engine (2.0 L) X 15 PSI = 240 HP For each atmosphere (15 PSI or 1 Bar or Atmosphere) an engine doubles in size and HP! So to get about 450+ HP, one is going to need somewhere about 30-35 PSI. The fuel system will need to double to triple it's output. Did I mention boost lag with such 1 large turbo? That is why staged turbo systems are made on more expensive vehicles. Rather than making more power, I would make a "Canyon Carver" by doing the suspension wheels and tires
Cerberus
Engines are air pumps, so improving flow is a big part of the game. Specifically more free flowing exhaust and induction, BOV can be helpful if it is opening prematurely due to weak spring (supposedly an issue on some ) , upgraded intercooler is an option but likely delivers small return on investment as compared to a tune from Livernois.
