Fan not turning on when car starts, so a/c blows hot.

Recommended Posts

I'm buying this car from my older sister so I am trying to troubleshoot all the issues before I finalize purchase.

2010 Ford edge limited 2WD

My sister had issues with over heating and had the radiator fan replaced. It took like 4 trips to the mechanic to get the fan to turn on when the car was hot enough. The latest fix was a zip tie on the connection. So far so good. No over heating in the past few weeks.

I noticed yesterday that the AC does not turn on until a few minutes into a drive. I tried moving around the relays and checking the fuses. I haven't found anything. The fan is not turning on when idling and therefore no AC.

Any suggestions on other things to check. I'm not used to working on cars. I work on pedicabs normally so I'm way out of my norm. Talk to me like a small child please.

Welcome.

What brand of radiator fan and fan controller is installed?

Browse the forum and you'll find that the only reliable replacement for these components is OEM.

This is most likely causing the AC issue as well.

I have already browzed and I've seen this topic a lot. I'm assuming the replacement parts were OEM. I'm wondering if there is anything I could trouble shoot.

You will need a suitably qualified auto-elec tech to diagnose, but before that I would confirm if the parts are OEM.

Parts are from advance auto. I'm looking to pick up some OEM parts from a junk yard. I know 2007-2010 is kind of the right years for most things on this car. If I am looking for a 2010 would a fan in this range be correct, or could I enter my search into other years?
