bryan1650t
Hi Team, New to the forum. We acquired a 2008 Ford Edge in January. When we bought it, the radio did not respond at all. Sometimes the lights would flicker. The radio is one of these 6-cd changer, mp3, and cell phone sync capable similar to what is shown below. The radio was actually malfunctioning and causing a parasitic draw so I pulled to fuses so my son could go back to school four hours away. Problem solved; no parasitic draw anymore. Amp meters are wonderful. The junkyard in town told me that I could have a replacement for $50 if I pulled the radio out and matched the numbers 1:1. I'm quickly finding out that there were many radio combinations, and not all of this generation of radio were created equal. I would like to do a 1:1 replacement if possible. My electrical skills are not that good, and if the junkyard honors a $50 price, it's worth it to just swap it out. The idea of plug and play into the existing connections would be slick. I have not pulled the radio out yet. The vehicle is four hours away from me for another two weeks. How difficult would this be to find a match? Does it have to be an exact match? Will the ECM fight a replacement radio; is there a code needed? I've seen enough removal videos to be confident with physical removal and installation. Again, plug and play would totally make my day. Is it worth my time to do this? Please let me know. Radio below is similar but not identical; stock photo for reference.
