Parasitic draw

Recommended Posts

Hey, I have a 2011 ford edge. I have a parasitic draw that I used a multimeter to chase down. None of the fuses gave an obvious change but i did see that the front passenger door pulls significant power when opened and then it stays high for awhile after it’s closed. The other doors didn’t stay up like that. Is there something that only that door would be specifically activating?

Opening the drivers door seems to "activate" and ready the vehicle. I'm no genius, but maybe the system recognizes that someone using the passenger or rear doors is not intending to drive the vehicle, so no need to "wake up" the entire system.

Welcome to the Forum, @Samothy!

From the 2011 Edge Workshop Manual...

Startup (Welcome)/Shutdown (Farewell) Mode

The IPC provides a startup/shutdown mode also known as a welcome/farewell strategy. When the vehicle receives a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) request or a door ajar (open) message, the IPC gradually increases illumination of the gauge trim rings and turns on the message center (the optional IPC provides a welcome graphic). When the key is inserted into the ignition (key off), the IPC illuminates the gauge points. When the ignition is placed into the RUN or START position, the IPC begins a prove-out stage.

During the prove-out stage, the IPC sweeps then zeros all gauges, provides message center information (replaces the welcome screen with vehicle specific information on the optional IPC ) while illuminating all LED indicators for a predetermined time. For the shutdown, the IPC reverses the startup process.

Good luck!

Only thing I can think of that's unique to this door is the specific door open circuit

1. Does your car have an illuminated scuff sill plate on passenger side?

Opening passenger door triggers interior lighting which stays on for a while. While opening drivers door also triggers lights, if you bought the car used, a former owner (or dealer) may have disconnected the druvers door switch because it was bad.

2. Does opening drivers door trigger interior lighting?

3. Any electrical modifications to your car? Any at all?

4. Did you check the wire bundle passing from the car frane into the door for frayed insulation ?
