Rchalk
The 2020 ST I bought a few weeks ago, I just discovered, has no spare tire. Instead there is an extra storage tray of sorts which doesn't seem to fit correctly, and holds the floor panel up about 1/2 inch from where it should lie flat. Is this normal for the ST? There is a jack and wheel lug wrench..... I have the performance brake package with the 21-inch wheels. Should I have gotten the inflator/sealer kit as well? boostededge
They should include a AAA membership for towing 😁
STBEAST
Rchalk, I too got the performance brake and tire package. No, you should not have a spare, but you should have a tire inflator/sealer kit in its place. Mine came with one. Kind of a bummer to not have a spare, but the performance and handling gained by the upgrade make it worth it. My opinion.
Davidoo
I have a 22 ST and purposely didn't get the performance brake package for that reason. Not going without a spare. As luck would have it, I hit an object on a freeway with my ST and one of the crappy Hankooks sidewall blew out. Was out in the middle of nowhere. Put the spare on and 10 minutes on my way. The inflator kit would have been useless.

I trust that more than the original kit, and it was less expensive.
STBEAST
The performance brake and tire package brings out the best in the ST for sure. I live in warmer climate so it would have been a performance let down without it. As long as the donut spare is the same diameter (21 inches) you should be fine. I believe running a different size spare could cause damage to the all-wheel drive system. Not sure on that though.

The OEM donut spare is actually smaller in diameter and will cause the AWD system to disconnect to save it from damage
Haz
From the 2020 Edge Workshop Manual, with emphasis added... Spare Tire And Mismatched Tire Sizes Major dissimilar tire sizes between the front and rear axles could cause the AWD system to stop functioning and default to FWD or damage the AWD system. It is recommended to reinstall a repaired or replaced road tire as soon as possible. When a mismatched or tire of the wrong size is fitted, an AWD OFF message may appear in the IPC . If this condition occurs, a DTC is set and an AWD OFF message is displayed on the message center. If there is an AWD malfunction service required message in the message center from using a spare or mismatched tire, this indicator should turn off after reinstalling a tire of the same size as the normal road tire, then cycling the ignition OFF and ON. Good luck!

I know this may have been discussed before, but there is a good chance it won't fit, in addition to the AWD issues a different size spare causes mentioned by others above. I had a Fusion Energi PHEV prior to the 22 Edge ST I now have. It had regenerative brakes, which I believe are a bit larger than the regular brakes, or somehow makes the hub a different size, I don't know the techs about that. The car didn't come with a spare, and there is no option to get one from any Ford dealers. The reason is the rims weren't deep enough to allow for the size of the calipers to be able to attach the lug nuts. I went to 3rd party sites that said they sold spares that were compatible......none of them fit. The fact there wasn't an option when I ordered my ST and wanted to get the brake package tells me it could be the same issue. I took several long road trips through Wyoming and Montana and there is no way I would go up there without a spare, so what I did is I found the dealer had an extra wheel that matched my Fusion, so they gave me a deal if I bought new tires, which I needed anyway, and put my best old tire on that rim....so I had a spare! I would at least try the one you bought and make sure it fits and you can tighten all the lugs.
STBEAST
About a third of today's vehicles no longer have a spare tire. This is done to reduce cost, increase storage space and reduce weight. I believe about 90 percent of today's generation couldn't change a spare tire anyway! I might be wrong on the percentage (it could be higher!). Mine ST came with a pretty high-tech inflator/sealer to substitute the lack of spare. It looks like it would work great for a screw or nail. But anything beyond that I have to get towed. Bummer. I wonder if they make a 21-inch donut??? 😏
garycrist
Thank GOD bias-ply tires aren't on cars any more!

I wonder if they make a 21-inch donut??? 😏 I am not sure of the information I found several months ago, but I read somewhere on this forum that the donut spares were two different sizes- - 17" and 18" I believe. That poster said that the 18" rim would fit, so I found one on eBay, and took a chance. I have not, in fact, tried it on my vehicle, and I guess I should. As for wheel diameter and the AWD, it is not the rim size that matters, but the circumference of the tire when inflated. I will measure that when I try the wheel, and let you all know what I find. Actually, the information is in both the links posted above. Read through these two links, and you will see a report from another user that the wheel fits fine. You do have to get the 18" wheel, however...

If you have AWD or an ST (which other than early Sports, only AWD, but have different brake setups) you need the 18 inch spare wheel and tire. The 18 inch spare tire is taller since it is the same width and aspect ratio as the 17 incher, on a larger diameter wheel.
