All weather tires.

Recommended Posts

If I were in the market for a used AWD and the tires on the vehicle are mismatched it would raise some concerns for me. There is a lot of debate surrounding whether having mismatched tires can cause premature wear on the drivetrain of an AWD vehicle. There is even debate concerning whether to replace the entire set if one tire needs to be replaced due to a blowout or other damage, as AWD vehicles require tires with the same circumference. I am guessing that you want good wet and dry traction and a long period until replacement is necessary. Have you considered selecting the OEM Michelin tires? The ride quality of the Edge is exceptional, and the OEM Michelin tires are a part of the ride quality system.

I am assuming you will be replacing the set of 4 with these.

I have the wrg4s on our escape and they are the best all weather tires I have ever driven on.  Had them on 3 years now and they are still quiet and have plenty of tread remaining.  I expect to get more than 60k out of them.

What did you ever decide on tires? On 11/17/23 I got 4 Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires and on 9/24/24 they were at 3/32... 17480 miles on an 80k tire.... sad by it./

I installed 4 of these on 8/22/2022 at 81,170 miles, and today at 107,160 miles there's still loads of tread left after 26K miles.

I haven't measured the tread depth, but quite confident they'll reach 80K miles.

I feel I just got a bad batch. Normal driving, most under 60mph. I don't have a 2position pedal, so i don't race to the next stop sign. Don't brake hard either. Rotated ever 5k with oil... just don't get it.

Hope you have good luck, i am on the search, not sure I want to try another set of the same.

It depends where the tires were made even within the same MFG. and tire type.  Some of the

countries have JUNK rubber compounds and make a tire that will never give the rated miles.

By the time the CLOWNS at the tire store get finished screwing the client with a tire adjustment,

one would have been better not going there at all! That is why they sell warranties with tires.

Like the guy in the commercial says, "You can pay me now and you can pay me later".

I replaced the OEM Hankooks at 35k miles with the Michelin Cross Climate 2s, The ride is very quiet and comfortable, even with the 20"s. The Hankooks wore ok, 3/32 - 5/32 left but I had a kole in the sidewall.  The Michelins are pricey but I like them so far and the tread looks cool.

I need to correct my estimated remaining life on the Alenza's.

Was at Discount Tire to get a free balancing done and they reported 5/32" remaining tread depth and offered $888 off on a new set of tires based on the fact that these would not make the 80K mile guarantee.

26,630 miles with 5/32" remaining.

I declined because I'd rather have my next set of tires installed at Costco but need to check the numbers to see if its best to take the $888 at Discount Tire.

Now to decide on what tires too use next or just stick with the Alenza's - the original Pirelli's lasted longer.

Some of the things about Discount, they sell warranties as well as tires. (DUUHH)

Did you know they have tires made just for them by the same manufacturers who's

name one depends. Or in other words, they sell one a tire that will never last long but,

you have a warranty and they have a ready made sucker for a customer!

Discount tire has some brands it sells exclusively, but I have not seen special models only they sell, or same models with different specs. Walmart has quite a few Walmart only models made by Goodyear, but it isn't like they are made of rope and duct tape, they are usually maybe lower mileage rated, lower temp spec, things like that. I ran them all the time on my older cars when I didn't know if the car would be around for a year or 10 years. They were just tires that were cheaper and had compromises that I was okay with.

I shop around for quality and price, and have gotten tires at Discount, and tires from TireRack mounted at Discount, as well as other places. They have never done me wrong other than taking way longer to get to my car with an appointment and it taking longer, hardly unique.

Tire Rack is Discount Tire! Discount is big enough that it can specify the compounds in the

thread section of the tire regardless of the manufacturer. An example was the Yokohama

tire line with 3 different selections for the same size tire. I could easily tell one to expect

with normal driving 40K+ miles. The next was a street performance tire one could achieve

plenty of miles but had hardened over time and have next to no traction (20K-35K)! The last was for racing/street(ha ha),

with the better driver getting the fewest miles(5K-12K)! Those were the king in SCCA racing too or, if you were not running

them you were not winning.

When the auto manufactures buy tires they specify the compounds for the tires they buy. An example was the GM

TPC radial specification for tires. They skimped on the width of the steel belts and with the springs sagging as they

broke in and the camber going way too positive, it caused excessive outside premature shoulder wear. But then again,

people were trading in about every 18 months so, for about 15K-30K for tires.

Bought these last year & have 1 mild Ohio winter on them with my 2020 AWD. General Tire Altimax 365. Local tire store recommended them & they've never sold me a bad set, in 15+ years of using them. Didn't get much snow last year so I didn't have the ability to really try them out. The OEMs left me stuck in my mom's driveway when it was below 0 out & I decided that's the last winter for them after 2 years & under 20,000 miles. Don't really have a complaint, except for the price $190/tire. They do have a $100 rebate right now till the 31st.

It was also time for winter wheels on our 2016 SEL Fwd this year, so the local tire store also recommended these.
