WITX
My mother in law passed and we came into posession of her 2008 Limited with13,500 miles. Ok almost 15k by the time we drove it home from Florida to Texas in mid January. The 1300 miles were problem free, and it was a nice highway cruiser. I've spent some driveway time with it, cleaning it up, and it's in really nice condition. Two weeks ago we drive it into Austin (about 50 miles) and I felt a few mild clunks while shifting under light acceleration. So I took it to a local shop that folks around here use for oil changes and light mechanical repairs. They have a good reputation but if you aren't using their coupons for oil changes they are really expensive. I figured a transmission service (filter, fluid, etc) would straighten things out. So here is their diagnosis: We have completed the diagnostics on your Edge. EXCESSIVE ENGINE IN CARRIER ROLL DUE TO WORN ANTI ROLL MOUNT. BOTH THE ENGINE RIGHT TOP MOUNT AND THE TRANSMISSION MOUNT ALSO HAVE EXCESSIVE PLAY/MOVEMENT BECAUSE OF EXTRA STRESS CREATED BY ANTI ROLL MOUNT, THEY WORK HARDER. THIS IS CREATING A "BOUNCE" THUMP MOVEMENT WHEN SELECTING GEARS AND ON LOW END DOWN AND UP SHIFTS. SUGGEST MOUNTS REPLACEMENT. TRANSMISSION SERVICE PER FORD MOTOR COMPANY PROCEDURE. THIS A 3 STEP PROCESS. They quoted $420 for the transmission service and $2,050 for replacing the three mounts. Yeah I was stunned at both the problem and the price. Now I have an appointment at the small town local dealer. They will do the transmission service for $297 and diagnose the issue. IF the initial diagnosis is correct, what should I expect to pay at a small town dealer in Texas Hill Country?
