CARR142
My MKX was stolen from my driveway on 12/16/23. They cloned the IKT and drove away, got on cameras, not able to identify the person. Adios Amigos! 1
dabangsta
I have always relied on PATS and undesirable vehicles as deterrents, but I guess that isn't enough. Sorry to hear about that happening.
Haz
CARR142: Saddened to learn of your MKX's fate, but more fully saddened over you being stolen away from all of us. Please let us know what you replace the MKX with. Good luck! From https://www.nicb.org/vincheck
normkol
That sucks! If they want a car, there is always some way to get it, too bad it was yours. Good luck with your replacement.
enigma-2
The car smartkey transmitter's signal is strong enough to go through the home walls, especially if it was left near an outside wall. The signal gets picked it up by the relay receiver outside the home. His relay receiver then transmits the code to the other crook who stands near the car drivers window and uses the recieved code to unlock the door and then start the car. It's called a "relay station attack". Some modern cars have methods to prevent this, but older cars are still susceptible.
dabangsta
My parents stressed out about this type of exploit after watching a news story on it, mostly when traveling and staying in motels. They would keep the fobs in the microwave. I bought them the faraday type fob holders (one pocket is a faraday cage, the other isn't) and they used those instead.
