Hello there so recently I’ve changed the waterpump on my car now the car has a very rough idle when the car is started the rpm is between 630-650 after a drive the Rpm goes to 580-640  the engine shakes like a dancer there was a broken screw and it was causing a big vacum leak  so i fixed it still the car was having a rough idle and ive recently changed the engine mounts and the car doesnt give me any codes i did all the basics of changing the spark plugs cleaning the throtle body its been a headache for real  has anyone had the same problem and if so has anyone figured out a way to fix it?

did you change the timing chain, tensioners, maybe phasers too?

what my/engine are we talking about?

did you use motorcraft/ford parts or some aftermarket timing/water pump kit.

did water mix with the oil and if so did the mix turn grayish or remain a "creamy" color

monitor vct adv error values using forscan lite software and an obd reader on your smartphone/tablet to give you an idea if timing is the issue.

Yep.

If you've opened up your V6~3.5L~SOHC Engines TimingCover & removed various TimingComponents to get at & replace the WaterPump, lots of possibilities:

* did this get initiated because of a WaterPump failure; if so did Coolant get mixed with Oil to make a "MilkShake" & damage the Engine block?

* exactly what Components were renewed or reused; did you use MotorCraft\Cloyes\Melling parts & or cheaper\notorious offbrand parts?

* did you renew\upgrade the OilPump while you were in there; if so hopefully MotorCraft\Melling?

* while removing+replacing TimingComponents, did you take care to properly position engine at TDC; did you use any Cam locking jigs?

* was Engine in vehicle or did you completely remove Engine+Transmission+PTU while doing this Timing+Pump work?

* were all Seals+Gaskets+PCVValve+Hoses renewed?

* were Injectors+Plugs+Coils renewed\reused & properly gapped, seated & connected.

Well hello there  unfortunately i wasnt there when they changed it i only know that they only opened the upper part of the engine and the engine was still in the cat  right after the waterpump change we  changed the oil {Motor craft} we didnt use  any off brand or cheap parts because we’ve had this car since 2012 and it only has like 80-90k miles.

the car runs great while driving it pushes harder than ever  but when its idling i dont feel like im in a ford edge i feel like im in  a mustang with stage 3 camshaft

i did all the basics like i said

[sparkplugs,MAF sensor, vacuum leaks, valve cleaner]

it just annoys me when i stop at a red light and the car becomes a dancer.

any help would be appreciated

Since this was posted to the wrong forum, and moved, what year, model, and engine do you have? It was assumed that it was the 3.5/3.7 due to the location of the water pump, but if you call it simple, it might not be a 3.5.

Only clue so far is it has at least 4 cylinders, and is a 2012 or older. 2012 was the first year for the 2.0 GTDI engine.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm planning on a preventive maintenance  water pump change out somewhere between 175k and 200k.  My dealer drops the A-Frame as it's easier. (Easier means they charge more, lol)

Believe it's also a good time to pop in new plugs as well. (Wonder if r&r the the PVC is worth considering as well.)
