jsalva04
Hey guys, wanted to ask help here with something I've been unable to find information about anywhere else. I recently got a brand new Ford Edge SE 2022 and I love it but I have a problem: First let me start by saying this, I live in Panama, that's where I got the car on a local Ford dealership, the car as far as I can tell from the VIN was built in Canada. Here is the problem: one of the first thing I tried when I got home was trying to check if there was any software updates for the Sync system, but to my surprise I'm unable to connect the car to a WiFi Network simply because the option on the connectivity menu its unavailable as you can see from the pictures. I'm able to use my iPhone with CarPlay no problem and able to connect my iPhone via Bluetooth no problem either to play music that way, but unable to connect the car to my iPhone hotspot or any other WiFi network at all. I already tried to do a factory reset on the sync system and it did but still have the same problem. All I can think is that this is some kind of international country restrictions, I don't know, and I need help figuring this out. Has anyone seen this before? or know how to work around it? I've seen on some posts here and elsewhere that some people use a software called FORScan do to some bypassing an enabling / disabling features, but can't find this specific issue there. Appreciate any help anyone can provide Thanks Edited July 11, 2023 by jsalva04
1004ron
Welcome. Not familiar with the latest models, but my 2017 updates over WiFi were so slow - I tried it once and cancelled it and went with downloading to USB. Check this site to see if download to USB is available. https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/search/Download SYNC with MyFord Touch software updates to a USB drive/ Maybe @Haz can help. Thanks for your reply, I went to the page and register and it basically tells me that my car has automatic updates, but I need to enable the wifi settings to get the updates, and the problem is I cannot enable the wifi settings
enigma-2
I'm not familiar with your sync version, but I've had similar problems in the past with connectivity. The most common problem is your wireless router in the house is not discoverable. (Isn't broadcasting it's presence). If this is the case, try making the router discoverable long enough to establish a connection. Then you can turn off broadcasting again. The 2nd possible cause is the wireless signal is too weak to make a good connection. You should be able to get a signal out around 150 ft, but that can be attenuated due to building features and materials. I can connect in my garage, but get a much stronger signal in my driveway. dabangsta
I see complaints about exported vehicles to the UAE also have this functionality disabled. I don't know the difference between a "for export" to a country or one that was a North America config and exported. I am sure that you can tell this with the VIN, someone here got me detailed specs on mine that show information including the region and if it was marked for export or not. Mine shows build NA (north america), country CAN (Canada), plant Oakville, and the sales information is also NA, USA, Export = N. They don't even have the option to select a wireless network. That Wireless Projection setup is for wireless Android Auto/Carplay.

Haz
Looking at your Panama-market 2022 Edge SE's Window Sticker, FordPass connectivity via 4G modem/Wi-Fi is listed among its Standard Equipment, but not all items listed as Standard may be included in vehicles outside the continental United States... Physically checking your Edge for an installed TCU is quick and easy, and could be worthwhile. With appreciation to Forum member dabangster for this photo, if you fold down your Edge's left hand second row seat, and lift the forward corner of the cargo floor cover, you may or may not see an installed TCU... If you do find an installed TCU, you could perform the Bezel Diagnostics procedure to assess it, though lacking As-Built data, TCU diagnostics will likely not be viewable... jsalva04
This is a lot of very clear information @Haz and confirms the fact that the car does not have the capability, I checked on the place the TCU is suppose to be and is not there so that confirms it as well. Now, does that means that I cannot get any future FW updates? for SYNC? is there any other way to perform those updates? Thanks a lot for you help ! Haz
With your Edge lacking the ability to connect to Ford software update servers via Wi-Fi or 4G cellular telecom connections, in the future you will have to take your Edge to the dealership Service department for their technician to use a wired or Bluetooth connection to your Edge to evaluate if SYNC 4A -- or any other of your Edge's electronic modules -- are in need of a software update. Earlier versions of SYNC, up to SYNC 3, allowed owners to download SYNC updates over the Internet to a USB thumb-drive/memory card for transfer and installation to the vehicle's SYNC module/APIM -- but this is not possible with SYNC 4. In your Edge's case, the dealership technician will similarly download whatever update files that the Ford servers deem your Edge requires, and then perhaps use a USB memory device to transfer and install the needed update(s). This same process would be used on any vehicle equipped for over the air updates, but that vehicle is unable to receive the Ford Power-Up download -- perhaps due to corrupted software in the vehicle's TCU or Gateway module, or some other component issue. The SYNC software in your Edge shows an install date of 11/09/2022, which is your Edge's build date. The Panama version of Ford's Professional Technician System (PTS) website does not include any Connected Vehicle/OTA Software Update Dashboard, since Panama-market vehicles lack OTA capability. Looking at the USA PTS website, however, there are no pending software updates for your Edge's VIN. And all software updates are administered by VIN. For now, I'd say you have nothing to be concerned about! Good luck!
