dalethewhale
I have a 2021 Ford Edge ST with performance brake package. 1. The stock brake pads are shit and dusty as shit. Like every 2 weeks, the rims are covered even with ceramic coating them. 2. After chipping it with Racechip GTS + 54 HP and putting in a AFE oiled filter (+24hp) (The panel filter flows higher than the CAI) , it's even more apparent the brakes are really weak when I gun it and try to stop. 3. The rear brakes pads are quite low and I read everywhere this is normal for Fords and is a way to reduce nose diving when breaking (my 2005 mini cooper S had the same thing). The fronts probably are in the yellow but still a good amount left, but I am really tired of the dust. 4. I ordered Akebano Ultra premiums for front and rear. (I've had good stopping distance and dust with these on my 3 series). I've used Posi quiet (they're okay), Powerstop (close to stock for bmw), and Hawks (as good as Akebano). 5. I am debating between ordering drilled rotors on eBay and they're Manufactured in Canada (power stop, stop tech, r1 are made in China) OR re-using the existing rotors. Since the Ford is as heavy as a truck, has anybody tried EBC Red/Green/Yellow and can comment on their stopping power? Has anybody changed to performance pads but not rotors on their Ford? enigma-2
At my last brake job, I had Ford garage use Motorcraft 'Superduty' pads with regular rotors (all 4 axles). Noticed a slight (positive) difference in stopping power over standard pads. (Actually it's the best the MKX has ever stopped). I doubt rotors make much difference, no need for slotted or drilled rotors on a over-the-road car, they were designed for race cars (although some drive like they're on a race track). Solid rotors stop better but have greater heat fade after several hard stops. Normal driving solid are better, hence the reason Ford installs solid on OEMs. What tires are you running? Tires pay an important factor in braking. Tires can affect stopping distance and slowing power.
dalethewhale
I'm using all season Pirellis. I don't see any super duty options on the fordeom parts. I ended up ordering EBC reds for front and rear and akebonos pads at the same time (with amazon prime). EBC said they don't make Front pads for the Edge ST even though it's listed on retailers site. I installed EBC Red pads on the stock rotors and they are terrible. They dig into the rotors and have uneven wear after 300 miles but stopping power on the rears are better. People in other forums had a similar issue and EBC recommends using their rotors for their brake ebc red/yellow/green pads. I took before and after photos. The amazon EBC seller refunded me without returning the product. Since the rear rotors are now destroyed with groves. I ordered a brand new set of Brakeperformance rotors, slotted and dimpled and I am going to pair them with the Akebonos. I also flushed the system with ATE 5.1, this brand's formula makes brake pads much more responsive than other fluids and used it in all my prior vehicles. Also during my brake job, I found the front passenger bleeder screw with a very very small leak at the tip. When I took off the cap I found it slightly wet. When a brake vacuum is attached to the closed screw with 25 psi, nothing comes out. But if I smash on the brakes with my weight and pump it. I can get my finger tip wet and not enough for a drop. Long story short, ordered a new bleeder screw. Left Before Right After.jpf
