ewaters
I’m the 1st and only owner of 2018 Edge purchased in 2019 and decided it was time to get new brakes. I went to a local chain to get this done and while changing brakes, I was told I needed to replace my rear rotors, which they did. Now, when I’m backing out of my driveway in the morning, my brakes squeak! Another thing I’ve noticed is when I accelerate, my car doesn’t want to go like it did before! When I get to about 35 mph, it feels like I’m braking..what’s going on? I will definitely be taking it back to let them know these issues but before I do, I wanted to get more info so I have some sort of knowledge when telling tech. Thank you in advance! Thank you in advance! sounds like your calipers could be hanging up, as if, perhaps they did not use the proper procedure to retract the rear pistons with the electric park brake using a scan tool? hard to really say from minimal information.

So I took my car back to the mechanic and was told I now need to replace my front rotors AND calipers..instead of fixing the problem, I left with another problem. I mentioned that the calipers could be hanging up and that’s when they told me I needed new calipers. I contacted corporate and they were very apologetic and stated if I were to bring my car back then “they will fix the issues” not sure if I trust these mechanics now.. handfiler
Insist that the repair shop have a qualified technician take over and make sure they are accredited. The person that was working on your car should be in a different line of work. 2

As a mechanic, I think you have good reason to be skeptical of anyone who lays hands on your vehicle until they prove themselves competent, either through your own experiences or referrals & reviews. There are some talented people in the business but there are a lot of hacks too.
JTW
It makes me wonder if they reset the parking brake. The caliper pistons have to be reset into the caliper or the new brakes will drag on the rotor.
kwbarnes
I have had my car less than a year, 2020 Ford edge ST AWD. Bought with 33,000mi. Dealership had just put new pads and rotors on the rear. They also put 4 new tires on it, less than 6mo later I had to replace the broken passenger sway bar link and the front pads and rotors. Hasn't even been 3-4 mo. and now my brakes are screeching at every stop again with censors going off! WTH, that is NOT normal wear and tear. Ford has several recalls and forums on bad brakes. So who do I contact that is gonna fix this within ford because I've already reported it to Ford customer service once! HELP

Brake wear rates differ vastly between owners and that's why all manufacturers new car warranty is so limited when it comes to brakes. My models brakes are the same as yours, and I just recently replaced my rear pads for the first time at 103K miles, and the original rotors are still in use. HELP It is possible that the screeching is actually not the sensors squealing, but a very hard metallic or ceramic compound pad with poor installation (original rotors, no lube) The fleet I work on (not Ford) transitioned from OEM pads that burned up in under 10K miles, but were silent, to a ceramic pad that will last a lot longer, but if the backs of the pads are not greased, they definitely like to squeal. There have been A LOT of visits for on site brake changes that are unnecessary.. see if you can actually see the pad thickness ?
garycrist
Sticking caliper pistons, especially the plastic ones if still used, may (will) swell over time and usage. On metal pistons, a rust belt will form on the surface of the piston outside it's seal. The dust boot is just that as it only keeps dust our! Squeezing those pistons back in, takes a chance of a sticking piston and can be a crap shoot. While bleeding brakes, DO NOT PUSH TO THE FLOOR! Master cylinders wears too. One only pushes so far and a ring of gunk and a ridge will build up. Bleeding the brakes or just resetting the pads after their replacement, one must be careful not to push too far down, lest a master cylinder failure may happen from a torn seal.
