2017 Edge SEL Manual Liftgate Stuck

Hey all, first time poster - be kind?

 

My edge's rear hatch has been glitching for about a year now and I've just dealt with it, but then decided to google edge forums and here I am.

 

Here's the symptoms:

- If the hatch is closed, the car still says the hatch is ajar and the rear camera doesn't show the guide rail overlay, because the hatch is "technically open"

- If I drive the car around for about 5 minutes, then park, *usually* the hatch will then open, which leads me to believe something is being "shaken into place" once the car moves around a while.

- If I then re-close it after being able to open it, the loop starts over again.

 

I drove around with the hatch marginally propped open for the last long time - the car can't obviously be locked, but the ol' girl has 110K miles on it and no one's in a rush to steal this car, so it was whatever, but it's annoying and I'd like to avoid the cost of bringing it in if anyone's experienced this before. Happy to post pics or try whatever if anyone's got some ideas.

I have a 2017 edge w/manual Liftgate. I too have been having issues with it not opening or shutting at times. I try to open it and it doesn’t; opened the back door and like magic, it will open. Now that has stopped. I have to actually drive my car a few yards, get out and open the liftgate. Also, when I try to open it and it doesn’t open, the liftgate ajar notice pops up on my dash. But, clearly it’s not! Took to Ford dealership and they don’t have a clue. All their testing says it should work, they said it would cost upwards of $500 to replace!! I have 134,485 miles! If you find out anything new let me know !!
