Johnboy23
The steering wheel will not turn sometimes in cold weather below 32. Feels like the steering wheel is locked but seems when it warms up it is fine. Wondering if anyone has run into it 2018 Ford Edge FWD 3.5 Thanks! dabangsta
That is even weirder to me on a vehicle with EPAS. My older hydraulic system cars could be stiff and noisy when really cold, but not driven an EPAS vehicle in the cold, but I wouldn't expect an electric motor to suffer like a fluid pump. Johnboy23
My wife washes the car weekly at an automatic car wash. It does wash the underside. I'm wondering if water is getting inside the boot and freezing up?
dabangsta
Might not even be mechanical, could be water intrusion into the connector to the rack, however that will usually throw a message on the dash. If the power assist is out, it is still driveable, but pretty hard to turn, especially when stationary.
enigma-2
The first thing I would suspect is a weak vehicle battery. You need to test the battery's CCA capability. If the battery is getting weak, it loses capacity and voltage in the cold. After the car starts, the voltage comes up due to the alternator and the steering will begin working again. Johnboy23
Problem solved. Boot had a small tear and water was inside. Freezing so it wouldn't turn but also had quite a bit of rust inside . The last day or so they were getting rough spots as you turned the wheel. Thanks!
