Rysiu
I am thinking of purchasing a F1 style rear fog/brake light to mount around the rear hitch when it is not in use. The light would blink three times quickly before going a solid red. Now I am not looking to get into the legality of it, I already checked and it is legal where I live. I am more curious to know how to tap it into the lighting for my 2021 Ford Edge ST. This is the light I am looking at. Any tips would be helpful. ? https://store.ijdmtoy.com/products/universal-smoked-lens-15-led-rear-bumper-diffuser-rear-fog-light-kit-for-car-suv
ebank
Why not something like this instead? https://www.amazon.com/iJDMTOY-Tow-Receiver-Brake-Hole/dp/B07VKCW64R?th=1 slides in to your hitch receiver and plugs in to the trailer light hookup, no fuss. Cheaper?

Didn't see where it complies with SAE standards (i.e. DOT certified). All Lighting used on motor vehiclrs used over the road myst be DOT certified. Also, FMVSS 108 has requirements about accessory lighting, "S5.1.3No additional lamp, reflective device or other motor vehicle equipment shall be installed that impairs the effectiveness of lighting equipment required by this standard." It's up to local enforcement officers to determine what is and is not "impairment". As far as where to tap in, run a wire to the closest brake light wire. Shouldn’t be difficult, pull a rear tail light assembly, locate the brake lamp bulb, identify the + wire. PROTECT ANY TAP THAT RUNS OUTSIDE THE CAR. If it shorts and you loose your brake lights, YOU can be held responsible for any accidient it causes.

Cheaper? I ordered this first, this is not a waterproof device and the circuit board is completely exposed from behind. I also tried hooking it up the first unit I received did not work and the replacement one worked. However, when it is plugged into the trailer wiring I loose all of my sensors. I was hoping that would protect it from shorting out??
Xtra
An inline fuse of the proper size is easy to do and can’t hurt ?.
