DEC
My 2008 Ford Edge has issues with the overdrive portion of trans. Trans world perfectly in the first 4 gears, no hunting or jerking. Under normal operation the overdrives kick in and out when going up a slight grade and while cruising at, lets say 50 mph, and you step on the gas the overdrives also kick in and out. It appears to be worse when in is raining or very damp atmosphere. Driving without overdrive there is absolutely no hesitation between gears. Does anyone have this problem and know what the fix may be? Thanks in advance David
enigma-2
The first thing is to get the codes read. This will narrow down the problem to a specific area. Q. Have you ever changed the spark plugs. Historically problems in this area have been found to be related to plugs, coils or PCM failures. (Worn plugs can cause the other two).
DEC
Codes have been checked with no issue showing. Plugs have not been changed, but when driving with overdrive locked out there is no problem with shifting. Also it is much worse when wet out. enigma-2
Have you seen this response for the same problem? https://www.yourmechanic.com/question/the-transmission-keeps-dropping-out-of-overdrive-by-tim-p BTW, plugs should be changed around 90,000 miles. With the age of the car, I'd change the plugs.
DILLARD000
Recently changed Plugs in my 2008 EdgeAWDSEL V6~3.5L~DOHC from stock Platinum FordMotorCraft# ayfs22fm\sp411 to Iridium AutoLite# xp5364 with good results, running 10kMiles since. Cleaned+OhmChecked the Coils while I was there. If no Transmission Drain+Refill in the last 33kMiles, consider that. Awhile back switched ATF from stock MerconV Fluid to AmsOil# SSMV with good results; shifts smooth+quick.
