reed
Hello Everyone. I have a 2014 Edge Sport with the Sony Touch system. 3 months ago I had the symptoms of a stuck door actuator (one side blowing hot, the other cold) and followed the reset instructions. This worked for a while. Today the car will not blow any air, I have tried resetting again and restarting the car but nothing. Has anyone suffered this issue? Maybe a stuck or broken blower motor? Thanks guys Reed
enigma-2
Did you check the fuse? Think it's #18 in the engine fuse compartment. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
when its a temperature problem, and the reset fails to work, the options are to a) have ford recalibrate it for you, or b ) replace the offending actuator no air blowing at all is a different issue. it could be the front controls interface module (FCIM), blower motor failure, or resistor failure (usually just defaults to high speed, but ...). the HVAC module itself is rarely the issue. fuse definitely worth a check. enigma-2
Does the car have manual or automatic temperature controls?
reed
Hello everyone thanks for your replies. The car has the automatic (i think) touch screen controls. I removed and checked the blower motor and noticed there was some trash inside. I removed the trash and re-installed the fan and all was fine, the car was behaving (coincidence?). It is predominantly my wifes car. She tells me that when it fails there is no air whatsoever coming out the vents anywhere. The touch controls are responsive and show a change of fan speed temp etc on the screen but nothing happens with the fan or temperature. Sometimes a reset works, sometime it does not. Generally, she tells me that when the issue is there it is when she FIRST starts the car and then 5 minutes down the road it will rectify itself. Really strange! Any ideas?
enigma-2
I'd be concerned as to where the trash in the fan came from. The air flow is taken from the underside of the cowling in the engine compartment, through a filter (of sorts) through the cabin air filter and into the fan. So where's the junk coming from. Wouldn't take much junk to stop a fan. From your description, I'd guess the fan rotor is rubbing on the fan shroud. After a while it frees enough to spin. Pull the fan again and make certain the fan rotor clears the housing. If not, try pull it up a little. The other possibility is the fan itself is seizing in the fan bearings. Try a little oil in the bearings (worked for me, two years now).
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
this time of year, it is common for pests (rodents) to make a home anywhere and everywhere in the engine bay and even extending to the cabin area. also, parking near / under trees for extended periods of time can do it. OR the cabin filter/screen is simply missing.
reed
The fan has now completely given up the ghost. I have ordered a new fan and will be replacing it tonight. I have noticed that a common problem is the resistor. Does anyone have a part number or a non OEM alternative? The ones I am finding are $150+!! WWWPerfA_ZN0W
chip shortage is driving up prices of electronics, but i didnt think THAT much. check on rockauto.com for alternatives/pricing. oem for under 100 here https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=yh1823+7t4z19e624&_sacat=0 Edited December 15, 2021 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W

The ones I am finding are $150+!! No resistor in a car with auto climate hvac system (uses a computer module, and when the resistor fails, it defaults to high). You indicated earlier that you have the auto climate system. I'm agreeing that your motor is bad. The junk kept it from turning, drawing excess current and overheating (these motors require continuous air over).
reed
I replaced the blower motor and it appears to be working fine now. I did notice with the previous motor it did have a tonne of play/movement on the shaft.
enigma-2
I would still be concerned as to how the junk got into the motor area to begin with. (Don't want this happening to the new motor). Do you have a cabin filter or a "filter screen"? (If just a screen, I pitch and install a filter in its place).
