Jeff Alan
Has anyone gotten the Ford Visa credit card? I want to use it for my down payment (says you can do up to $3000) and I applied. But they mailed back and said they need my SS card, DL, and W2's. I have excellent credit and am used to instant approval for everything--this seems crazy. Anyone have similar or different experiences? I'm also wondering if it would go better if I applied when I go pay for the car.
1004ron
Most dealerships won't allow any more than that amount on a credit card. I highly recommend the below card - its 2% cash back on everything all the time, not like others that offer the cash back on certain purchases for a limited period - I use it for a statement credit. https://www.citi.com/credit-cards/citi-double-cash-credit-card
enigma-2
I'd avoid the use of any credit card for a down payment as the interest rate is a killer (unless you pay it off 100% at the first payment, in which case you don't need a credit card in the first place). Check with your bank and see what they'll offer. In the past I just wrote a check against my home improvement loan. High interest but lower than credit card. Or like 1004ron suggested. Get a credit card with 2% back and then at the first payment, write a check against your home improvement loan to pay off the credit card. You'll collect the 2% rebate and drop the interest rate by ~10%. ?? Edited October 3, 2021 by enigma-
