MKXgeek
Is anyone out there running inside the wheel brake dust shields? I've seen them on line. $50 for 2 $89 for a set of 4. What do you think? MKXgeek Fredericksburg, VA
ablb
Haven't needed them. Which is possibly/probably why the Edge/MKX has a reputation for not stopping very well. Have you ever noticed the wheels on a BMW they ALWAYS have a LOT of brake dust on them. ab

The stock sport pads on my Lincoln LS had lots of dust but I replaced them with Porterfield R4S pads which not only stopped better (much better) but also produced a lot less dust. They also got noisy and didn't stop well when cold. It's all a tradeoff.
DJ Nap
I'm a detailer by trade and I can tell you that the German cars and some Fords generate lots of dust. My Edge does not (thank God). I'll detail a Beemer and 3 days later (no sh*t) the front wheels look terrible. Easy Fix? CERAMIC brake pads. More $$, but you can go weeks without the dust buildup of 3 day old stock pads.

I guess I'll give it a couple of months and wait and see. Thanks Geek

akirby
No problems with my Edge after 5K miles. Those shields also tend to trap heat which can be bad for the brakes - they're not recommend. Better to switch pads.
Kanatronic
Mine do not have so much brake dust, not sure what the reason is, but as a side note I take it to the car wash weekly, so maybe they remove the dust pressuring the water plus cheaning fluid as they do the washing...I have not noticed dust in mine...
