Radio has no power.

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a 2007 SEL and the Radio has no power. I located the owners manual to find the appropriate fuses. According the manual fuse 28 and 39 are for the radio in the under dash fuse box. I tested with a test light and found that 39 had power on both sides of the fuse but 28 which a 5 amp fuse had no power on either side of the fuse. I pulled it to test the prongs with the same result. My question is what exactly does each fuse go to in the radio? My guess is 39 is the 12v power since it’s a big 20 amp fuse but I have no clue on 28. Any help or info would be much appreciated.

From the 09 service manual (don't have an 07 or 08),

Fuse #

    3, APIM (sync), 15a

18, Audio amplifier (with Audphile I or II sound system upgrades used in Edge -or- Digital Signal Processing module (used in MKX), 20a

28, ACM (radio) hot in start position, 5a

38, subwoofer -or- audio module, 20a

39, ACM (Audio Control Module ~ radio), 20a

  41, accessory delay feed 15a

The radio can be operated from the ignition in RUN or ACC. The ACM (radio) can send it own DTC's (fault codes) that can be read with a scan tool (using FORScan   https://forscan.org)

These may or may not match your car, but I believe that fuse #39 controls power to the radio in your system.

I only have the 09 service manual so there may be some differences. One fuse supplies power to ignition switch, ACC comes off pin 6 to pin 3 of the SJB. The manual doesn't show the electrical breakdown inside the fuse panel, but you could see if power is getting to pin 3 when the ignition switch is set to ACC.

I would tend to center in on the SJB being at fault more than the Ignition switch. Still, the power is supplied separately to the radio from the ignition switch when on in the RUN position and the car wouldn't start is it was defective.

Have you checked for codes yet? I'd think that's your next step to take.
