Davidoo
Hi all, I'm a lifelong Ford fanatic. I worked at the plant in Indianapolis for a time, and my dad retired from there. I currently have a 2017 Fusion Energi, that I love, but looking for something with more power and more room to haul things. The Energi is great, but the trunk is tiny due to the batteries, and there is NO SPARE TIRE. That is just not acceptable to me. I take long road trips and am planning another one to Wyoming and Montana. I want a spare. The tire inflator kit will work fine for a nail, but I've had flats where there were holes in the sidewall, or on the freeway where the tire shreds. Sooo, looking at the 2021 Edge ST. I want the 401A package because the cooled seats are a must in the Phoenix desert heat. I see some of the STs come with some type of Performance Brake package for over $2,600. These don't come with a spare. The reason, I'm guessing, is that because of the extra large brake calipers, the temporary spare rim won't fit over them. This is the same thing on the Fusion Energi. It didn't come with a spare, but you couldn't even buy one that would fit it because the regenerative braking system wouldn't allow them to fit on the wheel hub. I can get the ST without the Performance Brake package. The local dealer has a couple ordered like that, and sent me the stickers to view. The stickers says it comes with a spare and they charge $100 for it. I never knew they actually charged extra for a spare before. My question then is...can anyone verify that the ST without the Performance Brake package does indeed come with a temp spare that fits into the space for it under the cargo area? Thanks! txaggie
Welcome the forum. I have a 2019 ST with the brake package, and mine didn't come with a spare. HOWEVER, after waiting a week for a replacement tire back in September and realizing what a joke the slime inflation system would be in a real emergency, I did some research and found that the standard Edge spare does in fact fit, and fits very nicely in the spot below the cover in the rear (almost like it belongs there). I bought the spare from ebay for about $80 shipped. My point is don't let the lack of a spare dissuade you from your purchase, it is a pretty easy thing to correct. But does it fit over the big brakes? That’s most likely why it isn’t included.

The brakes aren't bigger. The calipers are painter red, the pads are different, the cooling fan is different and I think the brake shield is a little different. I do believe that in 2021 they eliminated the spare entirely but could be wrong. The spare from previous years will fit though. Fits just fine, no rubs, no interference at all. In fact, if you look under the tray that holds the inflation kit, you'll find a nice well that the spare tire fits right in. And as for not included, my guess is a weight savings issue more than anything. Edited April 23, 2021 by txaggie

It defies logic though, if the same spare for the car without the Performance Brake package fits in the spare well, and fits on the wheel hub, why is it that they don't give you one...just for that particular vehicle? The weight would be the same for all of them. If some of you are saying that the regular, non-modified spare for a "regular" Edge fits fine on the ST with the Performance Brake package, I'm happy to hear that. I will tell you that for the Fusion Energi I own right now, None of the spares from any Fusion will fit. They go on the hub and bolts, but when you tighten them down the rim rubs on the caliper. The dealer and everyone on the FusionEnergi forum told me the regular spare would work, but I assure you it did not. I ended up buying another rim like the one I had for the 4 regular tires, put an older tire on it and carried that with me when I went on long trips where it could be 50 miles to any services. A huge hassle.

enigma-2
The mini spare tire option is the 51Q package and costs $100. (Well worth it in my opinion). I didn't see any limitation when using the 401A or 66P brake packages. Best to talk to a local agent to confirm. https://www.group1auto.com/carresearch/VehicleQuickQuoteForm/year_2021/make_Ford/model_Edge/trim_ST/id_47635/confid_group1auto-responsive/section_Options/ Edited April 28, 2021 by enigma-
