Rob_H
A few days ago I noticed a hint of a burning smell like hot transmission fluid, enough to get me to ask the shop to check the fluid level when the snow tires are being changed out among other things next week. There's no dipstick that I can find to check it myself. Today, after about a 20 minute run at highways speeds, when I came to park the unit, there was an overwhelming smell in the cab. To me, it's reminiscent of losing the clutch in the old style transmissions. Also, the console came up with an alert, something like "Intelligent AWD disconnected". Sorry, can't remember the exact message. I've monitored the Intelligent AWD on the console shifting from forward wheels to AWD and back (it was raining today, so it shifted a bit more than usual). I also monitored the rpm's at each shifting of gears and nothing jumped out at me. There is no smoke and no visible leakage. There doesn't appear to be any slip. Obviously it has to go to the shop, but are there any ideas out there about what I can look at? Many thanks in advance.
jmr061
Sounds like the PTU is bad. There isn't really anything you can do yourself. Changing the fluid in it would likely be useless at this point and no, there is no dipstick for the PTU. A new PTU may be in your future. Curious....what's your mileage? Rob_H
Just over 93,000 or 150,000 kilometers. Well that would suck if I have to change that out. What kind of cost are we looking at if it's not covered under warranty?

A new PTU costs around $700 and then you need to add labor.
enigma-2
Mine was covered under extended warranty so it didn't cost me anything. Believe the service rep said it would have been a little over $1, 100 with parts, labor and taxes.
