Alex E
So my 2011 edge sport AWD had a leaking power steering line. So I bought an Edelman line and my mechanic friend changed it out. The leak has stopped and I haven’t lost any fluid since as the reservoir has not gone down. I also had him change both belts at the same time. Everything works great however the system whines as I drive and turn. It’s noisier in the cabin than outside. He thought there maybe air in the system so he told me to leave the cap off over night. That didn’t work so he put the system under vacuum while I turned the wheel back and forth numerous times. This changed nothing. Can anyone think of what the problem maybe and how to fix this annoying sound?
enigma-2
May be damaged pump from loss of fluid. But still; https://itstillruns.com/stop-steering-pump-whining-noise-7500731.html
Alex E
The weird thing is, it wasn’t noisy before replacing the line. I’m wondering if it’s the aftermarket Edelman line?
Alex E
UPDATE - So it was an air leak caused by the aftermarket Edelman Power steering line. The connection that inserts into the pump measured too small compared to the OEM line. Tried it with 2 Edelman lines, both calipered too small. Go OEM with this part. What a pain this was! 1
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
if it's not the line, it's the seal, lol. had an owner who had trouble with oem replacement brake lines not fitting properly. but yes, much more likely with aftermarket. 99 stang
Use a suction device and take about a quart of fluid out and refill it with Lucas power steering repair stuff works like a dream.
