DrivingofftheEdge
What is the best oil to use in a DI engine and should you change it by mileage or time?
todd92
Any oil that meets ILSAC GF-6 is the 'best' oil for a DI engine. Change it when the IOLM tells you to, more often if you don't understand synthetic oil.
DrivingofftheEdge
What about SN rated oil? Or is that something different?
DrivingofftheEdge
I'm pretty sure almost every oil is now ILSAC GF-6 compliant even non synthetic

WWWPerfA_ZN0W
You want SN+ oil (or SP) in your turbo engine, these oils are made for use in forced induction engines. 5W30 minimum, though 10W30 might work with lower volatility and better resistance to fuel dilution/shear. Full synthetic of course for normal oil change intervals, anything you can get off Walmart shelves or online should be adequate. Now if you are a full throttle type driver, there are "better" oils out there, but you have to pay the $$$.
DrivingofftheEdge
I dont floor it everywhere. Mostly give it a good shot when getting on the highway. I more or less enjoy the function and longevity. I like a perfect running machine.
DrivingofftheEdge
Also if I waited for the oil monitor to change my oil, I would be doing it once a year. Seems like a long time.
AGreg1945
Oil is cheap, engines expensive. 5,000 miles or six months. Ford sells cars ... not oil ...
IWRBB
I change the oil in all my cars every 5000 miles. Time does not matter to me.

I put lots of miles on per month, my 2019 is at almost 100,000 miles now. I change at 5000 miles or less, use synthetic and use a factory filter. Plugs are very clean, combustion chambers are clean (looked with a small camera), and performance is great. Doesnt burn oil (or coolant). Leaving any oil in for 8, 10, 12 thousand miles is asking for trouble. Synthetic or not, no oil can magically deal with fuel dilution and the amount of dirt and combustion by-products that a hard working little turbo engine produces. Saving 50 bucks per change does not pay for an early failed engine.
