mgandrew
I have a 2015 AWD Edge. If I were to put on tire chains, front or back?
todd92
Both or neither. Just one will mess up the AWD.
mgandrew
Hmmm, If the AWD already differentiates where to apply the "drive", Wouldn't it continue to function as it normally does?
todd92
The Edge is FWD biased so I guess front if just one.
mgandrew
Clearance might be an issue with the fronts.
mgandrew
From Tire Rack, Tire chains should be installed on the drive wheels of the vehicle following the chain manufacturer's instructions, To retain as much of the normal handling characteristics of 4WD/AWD vehicles as possible, tire chains should be installed on all four tires, requiring the purchase of two pairs of tire chains. Haz
The owner's manual in the AWD section urges caution when driving in chains-required conditions, but does not provide any preference or prohibition other than to say excessive wheel spin can cause transmission damage. This online Q&A and this article suggest chaining all four tires as long as the vehicle manufacturer does not prohibit it. I just bought a 2015 AWD MKX, so if I buy chains, I'll buy two sets. Good luck!
mgandrew
Thanks Todd and Haz. I think I'll just skip the whole idea. I don't live in an area that gets the snow storms like some others.
